How long did it take you to find your stroke?

After playing pool for about 2.5 years I finally found a stroke that I can consistently and repeatably pocket balls much better than with strokes I used before.

I'm sure others have tried to mimic pros and incorporate different grips/grip pressures or long stroke like some Filipinos, so my question is when did you stop experimenting with other strokes and decide on one?

I filed a report with the Arlington Police Department 40 years ago and to this day it still hasn't been found.:embarrassed2:

I am one of the lucky ones when it comes to this subject, I always had a powerful stroke from the first day I picked up a cue. I never had and still do not have any problem pocketing balls by cut them or by banking them into the pocket.

My problem that took around three years was control. When I first started playing I hit everything with a Medium to hard stroke and this was mainly do to the fact that the table I started playing on had some bad rolls and it used the big Cue Ball.

For the first 3 years I played pool that was the only table I ever played on, so the bad habits i picked up ( hitting the ball to hard ) were very hard to break.

I suspose it is different for all of us, but no matter the problem It is just part of learning and something we must over come.

Take care

which stroke

Im not sure which stroke you want to know about my draw stroke my forcefollow stroke the one i currently have or the one i may well evolve into over the next five years or the one i had 5 years ago.

30 years and still looking...seriously, your stroke mechanics will constantly move around as you pick up and try different techniques. Even with the basics of a good, repeatable stroke, your body, eyes, fitness, etc. as you age will force you to change little things. That, plus newer/different equipment, will draw you to make little adjustments. Earl Strickland has changed his stroke in little (and not so little) ways over the years...I'd bet most of the best do. The key is, no matter what your stroke looks like, once you've locked in a basic foundation that you use without thinking about it, it's very hard to change it completely...so it's important to have a good foundation as a base that you can work with through the years. Plus, you'll just try some new things you see from time to time--that's part of the fun!

6 years and I mean 6 long years. Now thanks to elbow drop, slip stroke and stroke slip it is finally here. Thank God.

after shooting on and off for 30 yrs i am still trying to find it. i saw a post yesterday talking about the height of the elbow. so in practice just yesterday i am raising the elbow a couple of inches and it seemed to help. so i am still "on the hunt". going to take some lessons from georgia biliard academy in 3 or 4 weeks to work on it some more. the search goes on for me until i can pocket evry ball without missing! good frigging luck!

Jerry Briesath found mine. Ever since I have kept it very close to myself.

If any one has seen my stroke, please call so I may reclaim it. Lost somewhere in Kentucky, or Miami, Germany, California, 40 years ago.

stroke.

I had one I was trying to work out. I worked on it for a while. It took Scott Lee one day to find it and show it to me.

I wasn't aware that I had one, much less that it was missing. If I ever discover such a thing, I'll let ya know. :(

Bob...Actually it was my wife Patti who found it! It was out in your backyard, under that bee's nest! LOL All kidding aside, it wasn't that hard to find, once you knew what to look for! Thanks again for your great hospitality! I enjoyed spending the day with you, and meeting your family! :D

I have given up 5yrs into it. I can't devote anymore time to it....guess it's only for the diehards.

ill let you know when i find it

I'm still looking for the best stroke that will suit how I play. I like to use a long bridge, but I find that i'm a little more accurate on certain shots with a shorter bridge. I wish I could settle on a consistent stroke, but I find myself changing and short stroking sometimes.
