How Long or How Many???.....

who cares really...lot of worthless threads in this section on a daily basis that have nothing to do with buying or selling. So what if you bump your for sale item, people come and go on this site, some are here at different times of the day after all. The amount of action in this section means a new for sale thread will be on page 3 in 4 hours or less if its not bumped by someone.

kinda reminds me of the Cubs! "worthless", "nothing", and "bumped by someone"....no matter how good or bad they play, people will still go on "their site"..........gluttons for punishment?........well we'll see this year for sure! :D

skins --------- wants to make it clear he's a south side born and bred SOX FAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!.............

I do not sell all that often, but when I do, I will bump as many times as it takes for me to stay on the front page...especially if there is a lot of extraneous threads being knocked around.

With that said....I am still very happy that it has never taken me more than 24 hours to sell anything I have offered...so the bumps are kept to a minimum anyways. :D

Ok I'm confused here.....Is this what your talking about? The op had 4 posts including the original in 5 hours.....

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=104686

Or would this thread qualify under this topic...19 hours later the op above starts another thread on the same cue, and bumps the thread 4 times in 5 hours....I don't know if this is a poor example....any input???

"hit the nail on the head"
to describe exactly what is causing a situation or problem. Example of usage in a sentence: I think Dale hit the nail on the head when he provided the links above.

i don't see a problem with these threads at all. in both threads the seller is continually dropping the price and even considering trades relatively quick after their first price wasn't met. maybe they really wanted to "off" the cue that day. that would explain the intraday bumps. now if this were to go on for a few days with no drop in price and then i think one might wonder....why??

skins ------------- doe's many things intraday.....

Great topic

i really was interested in opinions regarding private, non business sales.........in my opinion those who make cues, billiard products or make somewhat of a living selling them shouldn't abuse the use of the for sale section. notice i didn't say not to use it just make your pitch and a bump or two and then let it ride. maybe another section just for business sales would be in order. that being said lets hear ONLY those opinions for private sales.

I've gone through a few transactions as both buyer and seller. I would define myself as a hobbyist, not even remotely engaged in my transactions for profit.

I believe it is extremely selfish of those who are using this as a profit generating medium to not even give up the nominal fee to become a club member (your name shows up as blue, you get that yellow bar with the nine ball, and even more importantly for a "business" - you can hold a lot more PM's than not being a member)

I see this as a complete lack of respect for the people who have given us
this site to communicate with each other. Obviously I would not purchase from these business people.

That being said, I also believe that these obvious business posters should in fact be given their own for sale section just like the raffle thread. This will assist in private individuals not needing to continuously bump their own for sale threads.

My personal practice has usually been to let my item go back 5 or more pages prior to making a non- solicited bump. Even at that, I restrict myself to no more than 2 of these bumps. If my item has not sold by that time, it is usually due to my pricing being out of whack with reality (a concept many here cannot seem to grasp). I then let the thread die if
I am unwilling to adjust my pricing.

To define a "solicited" bump, it is when a reply to a direct question about the product for sale is being asked, not the "thank you for your kind comments" type of bullsh!t reply to generate a bump.

JMO and it is a good one.

Thanks for the info on "Club Member" ...Just signed up for it. I didn't know anything about it, always wondered what the nine-ball with club member was??
I would love a separate forum for Business....What a GREAT idea!!!!

I think that individuals selling items should be able to bump twice per day for the first 3-4 days or so ,then once per day for the next few days.(if your a "for profit business", I think that's a whole diff set of rules) I also believe that starting a new thread for the same item shouldn't be allowed unless no post have been made for a min of 24hrs AND price has been lowered more than 20%.I also don't believe it's right to post for sale and raffle at the same time. We have to respect other people posting things for sale. all IMHO of coarse-jeff

I bet the Mods would love keeping track of all of that.

Most people are not bad about multiple threads and bumps. There are a few that run it in the ground. I just don't understand why people have to complain about every little thing on this forum.

Best anybody can do is when somebody is abusing the for sale section is to let them know. There are many new people on AZ that may not know the proper etiquette.

As far as "real business's" they are always going to use AZ for free listings. If the Mods don't have a problem with it then I don't. They may have something that I havn't seen before. That is what this site is all about. Learning new things and finding new products.

You are right. It is not practical to monitor the things I suggested. It is just my opinion of proper posting etiquette. However, it might not be a bad idea to have a "posting etiquette guide" pop up when you start a new thread? I love this sight and have met/dealt with some very nice/polite people that share a common obsession.
IMHO of coarse-jeff
