i really was interested in opinions regarding private, non business sales.........in my opinion those who make cues, billiard products or make somewhat of a living selling them shouldn't abuse the use of the for sale section. notice i didn't say not to use it just make your pitch and a bump or two and then let it ride. maybe another section just for business sales would be in order. that being said lets hear ONLY those opinions for private sales.
I've gone through a few transactions as both buyer and seller. I would define myself as a hobbyist, not even remotely engaged in my transactions for profit.
I believe it is extremely selfish of those who are using this as a profit generating medium to not even give up the nominal fee to become a club member (your name shows up as blue, you get that yellow bar with the nine ball, and even more importantly for a "business" - you can hold a lot more PM's than not being a member)
I see this as a complete lack of respect for the people who have given us
this site to communicate with each other. Obviously I would not purchase from these business people.
That being said, I also believe that these obvious business posters should in fact be given their own for sale section just like the raffle thread. This will assist in private individuals not needing to continuously bump their own for sale threads.
My personal practice has usually been to let my item go back 5 or more pages prior to making a non- solicited bump. Even at that, I restrict myself to no more than 2 of these bumps. If my item has not sold by that time, it is usually due to my pricing being out of whack with reality (a concept many here cannot seem to grasp). I then let the thread die if
I am unwilling to adjust my pricing.
To define a "solicited" bump, it is when a reply to a direct question about the product for sale is being asked, not the "thank you for your kind comments" type of bullsh!t reply to generate a bump.
JMO and it is a good one.
