How Long To Play With A New Ferrule

I just wanted some other opinions. I like to tell my customers to wait an hour, but on my own Q I've played & broke with them, 30 minutes after I trimmed the ferrule...JER

I do not return a shaft to my customers for 24 hour's, after that in my opinion it is ready for action!!!!!

I normaly use wood glue so I wait roughly 24 hrs before returning the shaft. When I use epoxy or Ca glues then 2-5 hours when I get a chance to give it back to them.

I don't want to have to see them twice, so I do them while they wait. This saves me a a lot of time and hassle.

likewise. tips i say wait 1 hr. ferrule 24 hours. ill give it back but i say wait a day ect

What is the reason for waiting before you hit with a new ferrule? If you glue it and screw it, (even with wood glue) there is absolutely no reason to wait to play with it IMO.

This is why I asked if it was threaded or slip fit.

Threads are the bond...........glue just keeps from unthreading.

peice of mind.

ill give one exaple. over the last 10 years i cant count on a staduims hands how many tips ive done. ive used the same glue for 10 years exclusively. i did a tip for a guy and give it back to him immediatly. i say what i always say if i give the shaft back immediatly. "take it easy on her". needless to say he goes to the table screws the shaft on and breaks with the new tip. tip goes further then the cueball and here we are. now in 10 years i can probably count on one hand them amount of tip that "fell off" (its closer to 1 then 5) so i say to him "did you break with it?" he says "no..." so knowing he did i just put a new tip on for him. a few hours later everyone was laughing and busting my balls about is. so i say. " what am i suppose to do. he broke with it didnt he" they all laughed at me and said "yep.. first shot"

moral to the story... i dont trust em!
when it leaves my hands i want to know its sound. if the glue isnt dry yet to me it isnt sound

Hello Gene, I have seen a number of ferrules over the years that were screwed and glued come loose, and develop a ping or a tink sound. Now I have no proof that this was caused by not waiting for the adhesive to fully cure or not. However, in my opinion why not wait 24 hour's it certainly can't hurt anything, and for me I want my shafts and cues to sound as solid as they feel.

Have a nice day Gene!!!!!!

Andy Gilbert threaded mine on my new cue that i got about a week ago as soon as he shaped the tips we went and knocked some balls around!! And i know this has been said on here alot but Andy builds a hell of a cue i love it!!!

they sound as good as they play too. i was hangin out with rob saez at SBE. we were chatting and i said i usually dont do this but you gotta let me wack a ball with you cue. i saw him play at the open like 3 years ago and in a.c. at the skins and the cue sounded great so i knew it hit great. so far ive played with 4 gilberts. all sounded and played the same. anyone know why he doesnt use ivory ferrules more often.
