how many cues do you own?

Really interesting reading everyone's story behind their collections...

I currently have

Black Boar
Mobley
Hercek
Southwest
Scruggs
JMW
Bender
Zinzola
Josey
Jensen
Gracio
4 x Bluegrass
Adam
Fury
2 x Joss gold lettered
Meucci
Mezz breaker
2 other break / jump cues.

Coming in early 2012, another Mobley, a Vollmer and a Tascarella.

Definitely going to buy a Searing at some point. Hopefully one will become available at the right time for me sometime in the future.

I was up at 30 at one stage, and I am still looking to reduce the size if not the value of the collection. Finally I can see some empty spaces in my cases!!

It really is the best hobby ever!! It is so exciting getting a new cue in the post and heading straight down the pool hall with it. I have also sold cues to 5 of the 7 other members of my pool team now, and have been educating the regulars about custom cues and cue makers.

I Have

I have 11 collectable cues and 2 jumpbreak cues. The 11 collectables are 9 Joel Herceks and one 6pt. Blackboar and one 8 pt. Blackboar. The jump breaks are custom Sledgehammers made by Mike Gulyassy. The one has striped mahogany and the other has a Elephant print leather wrap.

Here are some of my cues. I am particularly happy with my three custom cues from Mike Erwin, Jim Baxter and Brian Prulhiere.

Custom American build cues:
1: Mike Erwin
2: Jim Baxter
5: Brian Prulhiere

Production cues:
4: McDermott
3: Predator P3
6: Predator P3 White 471/500 with OB1 shaft
7-10: Lucasi

Cues I own

Perry Weston- very early unmarked 6 ebony points
Pechauer
3- JDs - These play incredibly and I use them the most. Only had them a few months - Thanks to Dan
Mezz
Dale Perry
Steve Mizerak
5280
1960's unknown maker - similar to Palmer- veneered 4 points with plastic butt and a brass joint. Maybe an Asian import but well made. Given to me in 1968 while I was in college and was already used by my Grandfather for a year or two.

This brings the total to 10. I play with 4 or 5 of them and the others are closet queens. I have been thinking about thinning the herd a bit but its tough to part with any of them. Some I keep for guests to use when we play.

This seems to be the best basis for a collection -- holding onto cues that have some personal meaning. Sorry to hear of your loss. When it's someone close, six years is a short time.

I'm similar, so only have a few cues, but I've never sold one either! Still have my first custom cue (1978 Joss East ordered from Dan Janes for me by Toby Sweet), two Barry Szambotis (both special, but for different reasons), a Titlist conversion by TNS/Tommy Migliore, and an old house cue converted into a two-piece by Tim Scruggs (not sneaky though, metal joint and wrap).

I only buy cues from makers I like and consider good people. Have had the chance to get introduced to some other great cuemakers to have a cue made, but I tend to go back to people who -- I'm lucky to say -- have become friends.

Thank you for the kind words. And I believe I would consider two Szams special, no matter what!

I am still at seven cues, but traded the Stacey for a Sugartree fancy sneaky. It was a great move. The cue plays superb, and is a perfect compliment to my Boar.

Fantastic post on so many levels! Thank you, Bob.

Larry
You are welcome, Glad you liked the post, My Father loved the game and took me to play pool and watch Joey Spaeth play a game in Cincinnati at a place called Merguards in 1968,All the local top players were all getting ready for a road trip, I was in the 6th grade, I was amazed at the level at which some of these guys played, that summer I started a shine booth got a buck a pop and then it led to running errands for the players and eventually advice on learning proper postion play and how english effects the roll of the ball, And old road player named Clem Metts once told me, Bob just think of this game as a science, its contact physics, and geomotry, he said you have 2 spheres that have to make contact at the precise angle in order to pocket the ball, english that is added will effect the tragectory or path after contact, he said just remember the ball will deflect at a 90degree angle after contact, now practice shots and watch what the ball does, these will develope your game and practice a nice smooth stroke kid, Now run down the street and get me a hambuger!!LOL

My wife brought a Minnesota Fats CLASSIC and a Predator SP with a Z2 to the union. [Side note, that Fats CLASSIC is one of the best cues I have ever shot with, no joke. The shaft is a rock and I can do almost anything with it. I recently cracked the ferrule and the top is basically shot, but it is amazing for a $15 cue]

I have a random custom with a 314-2 that I had to replace the shaft on. Once the new shaft came I stopped using it. I plan to sell it after my conversion on deck arrives.

I have a conversion in the works for breaking and a conversion to be used as a player. Will need to acquire a jumper somewhere and then I will be done. I'm a player, not a collector.

I have a handful of antique house cues up on my wall but I count those more as part of the table than anything else.

tl;dr - 2 cues with an option for a 3rd if I need it.

...SOME GUYS WONT UNDERSTAND THIS ... sOMETIMES HAVING ALL YOUR EGGS IN ONE BSKET ISNT SMART, cUES ARE A NICE WAY OF TAKING CHIPS OFF THE TABLE

...I CANT TAKE ANYMORE,

BEST
ERIC:)

Reminds me of a buddy, Don that I used to live with, we were young, 3 of us in the house and Don was on the WorldComm sales team, cold-calling businesses in DC.

He comes home one night and tells us he made a $3m sale and was going to get a 3.5% commission. He is 24, first job.

He buys himself a Porsche, 2 jet skiis, a trailer and a cheapo truck, has to endure his family and friends telling him he was silly to piss it all away.

His buddies are dumping significant %s of their commissions into WorldComm stock.

Couple years later, worldcomm stock is worth a fraction of a penny. He sells the 930 for a little more than he paid for it.

He tells me- fuuk, at least I had something to liquidate.

That is why I have about 20 cues:o:wink:.

Haha, not really. I only have ~6 nice(ish) ones and a wall full of Chinese cheapies and Dufferin 1pc that the hacks can use.

I think I could sell all my cues for 2k, total. 3k, if I threw in the gold crown.

ONE (shopping for a sneakie)

one cue
indoneisian rosewood into maple
kamui medium tip, poly delrin ferrule(thuds too much),
3/4 stainless piloted joint(perfect) and forward balanced.
