Hello, I was wondering how many cues does the average player have.. right now I have two complete sets that include shooter, jump, and break in two different bags. So I can just grab the set I want and go... how many do you guys have and is this too much...

You have enough for a player. Cues are sometimes a good investment. Quality cues go up in value. If I had known that in the seventies, I could be very wealthy now.

For actual use, 2-3. For collection, as high as the sky.

It’s an odd thing. I’ve been through a lot of cues in my life, and kept the special ones. I came into a few more special ones when a close friend died last year.

Every one I have plays amazingly, but I have my favorite that is my default go to 99% of the time, and I’m starting to feel guilty about the others just stored in cases. Somebody should be playing them, yet the thought of parting with them is undesirable, it makes me feel selfish.

Anything more than a set of a player with 2 shafts, a break cue and a jump cue is too much.
But trying different cues / joint types / shafts / specs is fun, having beautiful cues is fun, so there might be not enough cues…

Cues are bad investment, there are better things to invest in to make money.

Having too many different options is also bad for a player who wants to get better as it’s hard to stay consistent if you change gear all the time.
I have a small collection, it used to be easier as it didn’t matter which butt I was picking to use, it was always paired with the same shaft, so all the cues played similarly.
Today, there are also many interesting shafts to try, that will throw your game quite a bit. Sorry to say that I fell down that rabbit hole…
I’m trying to put a player set that works best for me and probably retire the rest of the collection.

Well depends on your view of cues. I know many who own one cue - they view it like someone might view owning an iron for clothes- you only need one to do the job.
Some players, like some golfers, own multiples bc they seek out something perceived to do the job better than what they are currently using.
Some people fall into a “ collector” category - either as a true hobby or as a sort of addiction- those people always own multiple cues and many have had a 100 or more pass through their hands- I fall into that category regarding cues- sometimes recognizing that my hobby can sometimes morph into addiction/ but always enjoyable nonetheless.

I sold a few of my cues a couple of months back. Planning on selling 1 or 2 of them soon. Just had a new one that came in about 2 weeks ago. And another one being built as of this moment.

I have two Joss playing cues. Every once in awhile I'll bring out the Meucci. In total, I own 5. I had both Joss cues made with dash rings so they can be swapped with the cues. One's traditional maple, the other an HP natural.

Same and could not be said any better IMO.
