Time for a new tip but I hate new tips! I don't know if it is the length of
the new tip,or if the new leather just plays different until it has smashed
enough balls into the cushions. Am I alone in this or do you -hate that
new tip-experience.
I have tried many types of tips and keep coming back to LePro's that I
am able to hand pick from my cuemaker.Just don't care for laminated
tips.I think they last longer but they should as they are part glue.
Any suggestions other then "Take a month off-then quit".:grin-square:

I don't like tall tips so when installing a new tip I remove 30-40% of the tip as soon as I put it on. Some might find this wasteful but I prefer the play of a shorter tip.

i use triangles, I press them prior to installation and cut the shoulder down to 3mm every time....PERFECT!

I am the same way. I hate a tall tip and tell them to cut off a third right away. When I get a new tip I always break with it also for a few days. In a few weeks it plays just like the last one.

I have used lepro tips but like u said u hand pickem,I use triangle tips and cut them about halfway down before I hit a ball with it,its not layered and they play consistent from tip to tip,I tried everything before I went to the triangle about 2yrs ago(I cut a kamui off of it)I dont have tip trouble anymore...good luck

I also hate that 'new tip' feel.

Before I discovered laminates, I used to cut the top of the tip off before shaping. Then I would spend 5 minutes or so hammering it with an empty bottle (can also use a ball), reshaping it every now and again. A bit tedious, but it successfully simulated several hours of play within a short time.

With laminated tips, I still cut off the top 1/3rd or more. But after shaping it is ready to go :).

Have your cue repair guy "press" a triangle and put it on... They have served me well for years and despite going and trying the high dollar laminated tips I always go back to them.

You and me both. Yesterday, my good friend Dave at B&D cues installed a new Kamui med. soft on my 314/2. After five hours of play it turns out this tip is an extra hard. What a piece of crap! If this tip is a med. soft then their hard tip must be like playing with a piece of ceramic tile glued to the end of the shaft. This was my first and last experience with a Kablooey.
Other than that, what else is new?

I agree with the general concensus that others have stated, pre-press the tip and cut it down to playing height. It will play like what you're used to. No need to adapt to the new tip.

It always seems everyone is in the search for the perfect tip. But have you ever thought about cue matching a tip? If you have a very dense shaft I would go with a medium tip, and type of ld shaft go with a harder tip they deflect less. If you are having trouble finding a good tip check your stroke, with a good stroke you can shoot with anything!
