How many pool cues have you bought?

How many pool cues have you bought in all the years you have been playing? I'm interested to see what correlation there is (if any) between number of cues and pool ability. From my golf days, I knew folks who changed clubs every year to the latest model when they were just 20 handicappers that should put the money towards lessons! The greatest cueman of all-time, Stephen Hendry, won his seven world titles with a cue he bought for 40 pounds when he just started the game (and other pros said it was so warped, they couldn't use it). Tiger has used the same putter for nine years, and is arguably the greatest clutch putter ever. It seems that equipment familiarity is the key to success, but others would argue that keeping up with the latest technology is the only way to go.

As someone that doesn't know a Z shaft from a 314, I've only ever owned two cues. The first I bought when I started playing six or seven years ago, and my current cue I've had for about four years. I bought that when I started getting more serious about the game (I got raised to APA7), and my old cue was in bad shape.

My cue buying and sellng has really taken off from being on here more. The selection from not only the members but the custom guys is insane. In the last 6 months i have bought over fifteen cues. Whether its on here or in my pool room or ebay. I have sold 10 of them and kept the ones i love. I am always on the lookout though.

How do mean to compare your answers with ability if you don't know how well a person plays. I see where you're going, but it's not reasonable to expect a true answer without knowing players abilities. I'll play, 14 cues, a connelly 9footer, a library of books, and i can shoot the fuzz off a fly's butt from 9 ft or less.

I've bought about 40 and still own 34 of them.
I haven't bought any for almost 2 years, however.

hundreds, i used to flip them in the pool room before the internet days, i own way more cues than i can possibly use in a single day, i do use them all but one from time to time, i cant play much now but when my back gets good again-someday, i will just use one cue as my main player and just keep my collection, i look at all of them often, over 20 something years i have had about 6-8 different cues as my main cue-never a fancy one, i like plain jane cues for daily use.

I like a few inlays and trim rings on my playing cue. I'm not satisfied with a plain jane cue and I know the extras have nothing to do with playing, but I like my cue to look good to me.

Well over a hundred.......but only a few have stayed for the long haul.
I'm in this category also. I've lost count on the cues i've owned and sold, but I found out what I like in a cue after trying out many different style cues. I've made a little money on some and lost a little on others, but i'm about even over the long run and I have 3 nice playing cues now that I like a lot.

Ditto

Before that I had maybe 3 cues in 30 years.

It is a seldom seen fly known as the runout fly, and you REALLY have to be in the zone to see the fuzz fly:cool: Keep your eye out, you never know when one will appear....

I've purchased about 20 cues over the years but not because I thought they would improve my game, I just like cues. For what it's worth I won the All-Prefecture tournament and the 1st Annual Hustler's Tournament using a Cuetec. I first started with a 22.00 cue that I bought at a home center, upgraded to a plain Jane Meucci, then a 4pt. Meucci, went up to a Schon after that then down to the Cuetec. I played with that Cuetec for a long time. When I won the All Prefecture tournament is when I went custom. I decided that I wanted a trophy cue and Paul Mottey was always in the back of my mind. Since that Mottey I've bought numerous cues but as I said, they're just because I like cues. Oddly enough, when I'm feeling out of stroke and my confidence is waning I grab the Cuetec because I know I play well with that cue. hehe!!

I've played pool since 1952...off and on owned a cue to play with. When I started playing serious (APA league 7), I thought it would be fun to start a cue collection (cue brands I played against from the 60's through the 90's)...presently have 35 different brands in my collection.
As I got cues, I'd show them off to friends at various pool halls and some of my friends ask me if I could get them a cue....I said yes, and before long I had bought and sold 100's of cues...all the while improving my collection and selling others.

If you like the look of beautifully grained wood (as I do) and the inlays, etc., you're hooked and a buyer of beauty forever~!

probsbly my favorite looking plater I owned was the plane Tad with the trim ring above the butt cap. I did play at home for 7 years with a SW with ivory points no veners which is the fanciest cue I had as a player. Until one my last back operations I used a Barry Szam with 36 Ivory inlays-Barry wasnt amused when I asked if he could fill them in, its just to flashy for a player, I did use a Sugartree for a while but had to stop(long story).

I had to switch to a longer cue after my back operation in March so I am useing a 4 point 4 veneeer Gus I owned for a year, wow its nice rose wood prongs and double black veneers on the outside. I have 2 Gus Hoppie style's one is 58" the other is 59"-I was wanting to use the hoppie stryle Gus but I cant move the CB with it as good as I can the Rose Wood one,

I find beatuy in simplicity sometimes, as is the case with with 4 PT. Gus cues, I dont know how many I have but they are among my favorite cues if not my favorite as a group.

Dont mis understand me though I love owning the flashy stuff too but not for everyday use. I couldnt get through life with out owning a few flashy cues, I got my first flashy cues over 20 years ago and still have them and more since. I'm not afraid of dinging them, because I havent dinged a cue in over 20 years. I just like to own them and use them sometimes, Like a Ferrari I sold a few months back-it was great for the weekends now and then-I sdold it and dont miss it, If I sold my Lambo(s) I wouldnt be right. :)

sorry about the spelling today its been way off in all the posts I made today, wow its almost unaceptable, so many letters to choose from.
