How many racks have you run?

I have put together 2 racks of 9 ball a few times, but somehow manage to get out of line in the 3rd rack every time. I only break and run about every 20th rack of 9 ball anyways. I thought it would be interesting though to hear everyones personal best.

Then:
5 in 9 ball in a row
5 in 8 ball in a row
98 balls in 14.1
2 racks in rotation - in a row - was in practice since the game is only to 61 points and you rarely run all 15 when gambling.
2 8 and outs in 1P in a row

about 10 or so 8 and outs in 1P - lifetime
1 10 and out in 1p - for $300 a game.

Now:

Lucky if I can hit the cueball.

Great past, makes me very concerned about my future...

John,

Did you say you ran 8 and Out playing One Pocket ten times in a row, and maybe more? All I have to say is Efren better give you a wide berth. :)

4 in 9 ball, both 7 & 9 Foot tables
4 in 8 ball, 7 foot table - hardly ever play 8 ball on a 9 foot table

I consider myself a fairly strong C Player.

RACKS??? Hell, I'm feeling good when I run 5 balls. Oh well, I'll keep banging away at it...:(

I ran 5 balls once playing a perfect game of nine ball with my Cuetec cue....It had to be said.

I didn't read it that way. I read it as though he had (10) 8 and outs in his lifetime of playing.

I probably own the record for number of consecutive times to get to the 8 or nine ball before flubbing it. It seems like running 7 balls is routine, and then I see that I'm out and I guess my mechanics/concentration deteriorate.

Soon I will look at that Scott Lee video analysis and deal with this (not ready to see myself yet!)

My real stats are:
9 ball -- 2 consecutive racks
8 ball -- 3 consecutive racks

to put things in perspective for you multiple runners........i spent almost two hours at the table tonight, racking and breaking 9-Ball. i broke 58 racks in that time span. and only two (2) times did i have a decent chance at running out. about rack #26, and the last one, #58. the rest of the time it was just nothing but the usual horrible, Horrible, HORRIBLE rolls i get all the time that just absolutely destroys my enthusiasm to play and practice.

oh, most i've run in 9-Ball is three racks in a row.

Am I reading that right? 98 racks? That's almost 1500 balls straight. Pretty darn good!

you dont run "Racks" in straight pool or 14.1, same thing. its the # of balls. he meant 98 balls in a row. thats still a pretty decent total though.

Getting consistent on multiple single Break and Runs games in 9 ball, but came close to my first 2 pack in the past few months. So lets call it 1.75 racks is my personal best. Just getting back in the game after a 6 year break. If I can get my break a little more consistent controlling the cue ball, it should definitely help.

I think one of the things that skews stats like these is time per discipline.

I have put in the most time playing 9 ball and 1 pocket. When I ran 98 in 14.1 I was putting in a lot of hours practicing and had done real well in two straight pool events in Germany.

I didn't get my first 8 and out until I moved to Colorado and was playing a lot more one pocket.

I forgot to mention that I ran two fives in a row in short rack banks and got stiffed for the last game at $100 a game. 5 is the number needed to win the game as it has 9 balls to start with.

Nowadays I get so damn frustrated. Sometimes I feel good and everything clicks and I start to feel like my old self and then the next set it all disappears.

One of those five rack packs in 9 ball was in a set against Ronnie Wiseman. A race to 11 for $300 against one of my cases. I came out of the gate and ran five racks and came up dry in the sixth game and lost 11:5. When I finally did get to see a decent shot again at like 8:5 for him I shot it into the rubber five inches away from the pocket.

I knew from the outset that I was donating the case anyway but those five racks cost me some money getting games later in the week as all I heard about was the 5 pack I put on Ronnie. No one seemed to remember that I lost. :-( This was at the Cue Club in Vegas.

The sad part of it all is that I still play good enough to be handicapped high but not good enough to deserve it. So I get drilled by people who should be spotting me and I am spotting them. And I get really drilled by the people above me who should be giving up more.

I'd rather just play in no handicap tournaments and take my beatings without adding the insult of a bad handicap.

My Best Ever ... 1963 12th Naval District Championship

Straight Pool was the game in those days ... We went to 150 for the win, but that particular Match found me "in stroke" and I ran 16 + racks (236 balls) to capture the title for the 2nd time ... I played with a Willie Hoppe Titleist (22 ozs.) in those days ... All told, I won 4 titles from 1961 - 1966 and accumulated 10 of those Hoppe's as bonuses ... Ah, to possess that perfect eyesight and flawless muscle control just once more ...

The break certainly helps or hinders in 9 ball. I found that once I lightened up a little on the break to get a solid hit, but still control the cue ball, I had much more open racks to screw up a few balls later, and better shots on the 1 ball.
