How many times have you gave the waitress/server the look?

You know the look when your down on a perfect set shot and you miss it because someone ordered and drink, and the person delivering it passed by your table. At which point the frustration gets channeled into a look directed at the server/waitress.

I am trying to have a different response then rage and anger directed at the server/waitress, but I feel her insecurities don't tolerate humor in intense situations. Some of the older fellows tell me to "Tap it," I think they are referring to slapping her on the rear, as a gesture of good company. I haven't tried that, I doubt I will. (they could've been saying "hit it" it is tough to tell when they slur when they talk with their mouths half open.)

You missed because you mishit the ball, it wasn't her fault. Admittedly, I've missed a shot when someone walked through my line and became frusterated but I realize that I was the one who let it get to me. The majority of the things that "cause" us to miss, we've trained ourselves to be bothered by it. Unless something reasonably startles you, there is really no one else to blame.

p.s. if someone slapped my girlfriends ass because she walked through a shot line....lets just say I wouldn't be best pleased.

You are completely misreading this situation. It doesn't matter how many times you give the waitress the "look". Who cares? The real question is how many times has the waitress given you the look? In order for that to happen you have to have the look, the personality or the right combination of the two. I have never minded an attractive waitress interrupting my game but then I have my priorities straight. LOL>

if you are easily sharked by normal activities and non normal activities happening near or around the pool table you should get away from pool fast or stick to shooting in the comfort of your basement.

dont get in my view

What I have found that always works and avoids hurt fellings, is to call the waitress of to the side and ask her if she wants to make bigger tips?

The answer is always yes!

Then I explain to them that when people are shooting that they should never approch the table, because it can cause the shooter to miss, being distracted and that missing can cause the shooter to lose money.

I teel het to say to them, I'll check on you guys, but i dont want to get in the way of your play, so let me know if you need service. The players will appreciate it that and we will tip you a lot better for it.

It works like a charm!

Actually, when I had the poolroom, I instructed the waitresses to continue walking and conducting business in a normal fashion. DO NOT stop fast in front of a shooter if you see him in his stance. This IMO is a far worse thing to do.

Players fully expect the waitress to be walking around, right past them as they are shooting. What they don't expect is a dead halt at the edge of their peripheral vision on their backstroke.

ive never given this look you speak of.

the one thing that does bug me a little is when somebody STOPS their routine (eg walking) when they see me down. just go about your normal business!!! i think it is much more distracting when somebody awkwardly stops in their tracks. i simply get up and let them pass in this situation.

u suck for missing man...and if the waitress was hot your really double suck for giving her "the look".

I've never given a waitress a look for passing by me while I'm down on the shot. Why? cause I take responsibility for allowing that to distract me if it does. I also realize that it could be a lot worse. For instance, like if I were in a developing country where the room was so crowded I couldn't even hear myself think. That or I could just consider the fact that I'm engaged in an f'ing leisure activity and not a brain surgery.

You need to mentally prepared for when someone walks by when you're shooting.

If you're down on the shot when someone walks by, then simply stand up and wait for the person to walk by. This is not the time to get frustrated or angry.

People walking by while I'm shooting doesn't bother me because I'm so focused. But what really bothers me is when I'm down shooting and some hottie walks up and pats my backside and says "That's for luck, Sugar". Only in my dreams.

Nope....no problem for me....

a distraction occurs when there is a sudden loud noise or people shouting and laughing loudly or the passers by unpurposely knock your body parts while you are on the stance of hitting the ball...other than that...I am totally fine...IMO

Pool players and tipping? Every league I've ever played in or been around the players wanted to drink water and figure out if chips or peanuts/popcorn was free. The waitress has said no, but you get unlimited pretzels and chips for $1 and they say I'll pass.

i actually have a theory on tipping. what if the customer needs money more than the waitress? still tip? i find this an interesting question. i guess many people would say yes, because you went out and if you dont want to tip, dont go out. my thing is, i try to make them do the least possible for me. i mean if somebody makes them run around all night, sure they should feel compelled to tip. same thing for a taxi..... i lift all my bags into the car for the airport and carry them all.... does the guy really deserve a tip?? maybe, but i think tips are for people that allow the server to do extra.
