How much longer must we endure this insane format CSI is pushing

If that's what you're into, I'm sure there's probably a channel
There probably is an i bet it's got about 100 times the view of the most popular pool channel. Proving my point, that catering to the lowest common denominator has its downsides.

Some days my wife walks through man cave and I’m watching 9 ball, another day 10 ball , another day .. well you get the picture. Sometimes short sets with spot shots, other days race to 13 .. on and on. So she says how the hell you expect me to understand or watch this game with you?

She went on .. if I watch tennis, basketball , football ,etc. it’s the same the next time I watch it, the game doesn’t change. This ‘stuff’ you watch is different every time I come down here.

Never looked at it like that before

Funny with all the analyses/arguments here the facts show that during the shootoffs the viewership jumps by the hundreds. Sometimes reading stuff here I get the feeling that people cannot accept change or they just want to condemn the format for whatever reasons. I have wasted enough time on this topic.

I don't care for it, but then I would like to see the game played on multiple sets and win by two. Do away with the hill hill.

Having said that it is not unpersented. In golf they play four grueling days often to have it settled by a sudden death playoff. I think this was where their minds were at when coming up with this.

The shoot out is not as bad as the race to four. Ideally would be to just add a third deciding set.

I saw Pagulayan and Van Boening and they are two of my favorites but I couldn't watch either. Glad the players are making money but I can't watch gimmick pool.

Next will be a table with a pocket at every diamond.

Not change for the worst. There's thousands of years of pool knowledge on this form I think their opinions are pretty valid.

And dont say football is the same it used to be. I voted with my feet on that one. I wont watch it. If you want to, go for it.

I don't see why different formats are hard for people to understand. I don't watch NBA with 4 12 minute quarters and get confused when NCAA plays 2 20 minute halves. The only thing you need to understand is they are trying to put the ball in the hole and they have to bounce it.

Not really equivalent. In golf they are still playing golf in sudden death. They have to drive the ball. Hit an approach shot and then putt the ball into the hole. What CSI is doing is not playing pool. A spot shot, which almost never comes up in a game in since the beginning of the nine-ball era isn't really a part of playing pool anymore. It's not a continuation of the match.

I hate the format but Hockey and Soccer have shootouts for Overtime and it seems to work for them.

I like the idea of you have to win 3 sets (like tennis) alternate break and single elimination. Just like a tennis tournament

Never said it was. Just trying to understand the rational it's such a dumb idea.

So you're making the argument for them that it pays homage to the historical early game of pool? ;) I mean snooker has been the same game forever, so what's bad about an old pool concept that used to decide many games? :pHeck, if you're a 1P player, you better know the spot shot in and out if you want to be competitive.

I'll tell you guys one thing, if I were playing this format and somehow managed to squeak out a 1-1 from behind, I'd damn sure be an expert at spot shots. Everyone has the same shot, so that means the better player wins right? I mean if the opponent was so good you never could have even won a set. Bring that A game or risk losing to a proposition shot.

Actually, in tennis, only the men's draws at the grand slam majors are 3 sets out of five. Everything else, including men's draws in other tournaments, all women's draws, and all doubles (men's, women's, and mixed), are best 2-of-3.
