How often do you scuff your tip?

I just did it for the second time yesterday since I got my new tip put on several months ago. And I think I did that because I had nothing else to do that second and remembered I found my tip tool and stuck it in my bag.

It would really depend on the tip you have. The Ki-Tech one I got put on has not needed any work at all to touch it up. Stayed in perfect shape since it was new.
 
Never (one of the benefits of using a Kamui Black hard tip that was shaped when it was installed)!

How is any of this info going to mean anything, Its not.

Everyone has their favorite brand and there is allot of companies who make tips.
Some people like soft tips other like harder tips.
Some people like laminated tips others don't.
Some people shoot harder then others.
Some people couldnt hit center of cue ball if their life depended on it.
Some people spit on there tip.
And other throw their chalk on the floor and stick the tip in and spin the cue back and forth like they are trying to start a fire.

And some people shoot allot more then others.

I like laminated tips the best , the tip pic can de tough on laminated tips.

I scuff my tip about every 200 to 300 racks or according to how my tip is holding chalk.

I like a nickel radius but a almost flat tip doesn't bother me ether.

I chalk every shot .
 
I use Triangle tips and i would say AT MOST ,once or twice in the life of the tip do i redress it .
( I burnish out any mushroom and light scuff the playing surface just to get the chalk off it), so like 2x in 9 months to a year.
When i do tips for people i always tell them if they need a "tune up" on it bring it to me and (for free) ill do it.
I dont condone "habitual" use of any DIY tip tool .
Guys that break out the scuffer ,tapper ,pick every time the play or miss a ball are good business for tip jobs. I see some of them 4 - 5 times a year.

I have Kamui Black soft and hard on 4 shafts. After the original tip shaping I have not reshaped one. I got a few of the tip tools, but could easily live with the old sand paper shaper. I will rough the tip up before any up coming extended periods of play.
 
Seldom. I use Triangles and might hit one with a Brad scuffer once in a great, great while.
 
Looks like I'm amongst the small percentile here. I use my Willard nickel radius before I start playing and again if I feel I've been playing for too long. Chalk adheres differently when I have a fresh, roughed up surface. (Triangle tips btw) Now that I see that most of you guys rarely scuff, I'm thinking it's all in my head!!

Same here.....never. I shape after install, break it in for several hours, reshape (slightly), and never touch it again. Other then occasional burnishing of the side.

I agree. Everyone should mention what tip they are using. Better database for everyone to see what tips seem to require more maintenence.

I always go hard but I have played with UltraSkin hard & heavy hitters, kamui black, brown, clear black, hard.

Right now I am playing with the pechauer gold hard that came on my new pechauer low deflection shaft (1 week old). Btw I love the shaft.

Edit: Triangle too for years.

As it glazes, every 30 mins or so, for every layered tip ever invented.

Depends more on your style of play than anything else though.
 
I use PoolDawg's milk duds, and break with my player as well. I'll do some light scuffing every 40-50 hours of play, and have never needed to reshape or trim.
 
I have the Kamui Gator and press lightly press it against the tip based on how the tip holds chalk when I chalk.
If it's getting glassy a quick touch up is in order.
I don't usually use the Kamui to shape, although that's possible, but I have better tools for that.

I'm using Kamui Black Hard on both my main player and break cue.
 
Not very often. When the cue ball stops reacting the way I expect it to I use a tip pick but I only shape it once after it is installed.

I use Everest tips.
