I bought a cue here on AZ and when the tube arrived at my door and left for me it was empty, it was open ended and was obvious it was empty, it was insured with delv. confirmation, and the post office still delievered it empty????

over 1 year ago I sent a buyer on Ebay a cue, cost him $400, It was insured with deliv. confirmation as well and when they delivered it to him it was empty as well, they made him sign for the empty box?????? he got the insurance money back on it and everything worked out but what a pain.

Has this happened to anyone else? I am going to be dealing with this for the next few days and don't look forward to it.

that sucks man, I haven't had that happen to me...thankfully. Best of luck with the situation!

Never with a cue, but once when I was stationed oversees, I had a friend whose bought a laptop from Dell and the box arrived empty. Thieves in every walk of life I guess.

who was the shipper?

not revealing the shipper as we are still working this out, I was wanting to see if this has happened to others

.

Man this is Funny.. I just received a cue that was shipped to me from Boise, ID on Jan. 23, 2008 Priority Mail should of been 2-3 day delivery. I received it on Feb. 11, 2008 thats 19 days to delivery it. When I received it the one end of the tube was ripped open. The gentlemen that shipped it used duct tape on the one end. The only thing in the tube was the cue shaft NO BUTT. Here's the bad part... He didn't insurance the package.. This cue was a trade deal so the shipper will be out a butt. Is there anything that can be done about this. I didn't notice it was ripped open until I was home and went to open the package and noticed it was ripped open and retaped with a peice on masking tape.

You need to take that package down to your postmaster and let him investigate its handling. Looks pretty obvious to me that it did not simply come open from normal handling. It might not help you get any money back, but it might help the post office find out who opened it along the way.

I talked to the Post master and it seems that this package was lost in shipment for awhile thats why it took 19 days to get here. The end that was opened didn't look like that in the photo when I received it. It was closed and that peice of tape was holding it shut. The other problem is when the gentlemen shipped it to me the PO he shipped it from didn't scan the delivery receipt so over the last 19 days we could not track the where abouts of the package. the only time it was scanned was when it arrived at my PO. At this point the shipper dont know any of this. I have PM'd him and he hasn't got back to me. He still thinks the package is still lost.

Thats why you insure the package! I had a Rolex stolen out of the box. UPS called the shipping company I used to inform them that my item had been lost. I asked how they could lose a box, and they stated that they had the box, but it had been cut open and the contents were missing. The big thing for me at the time was that it was not my watch. I insured it for what he wanted me to, and got the claim check within a couple of weeks. I was very satisfied with how they handled the claim, just not the watch!

I never like to use the post office. Their tracking system is basically useless. FedEx is the shipper of choice for me. I know you have to drive a little farther to get to their offices .. but I have never had a problem with them .. but have heard of numerous problems with USPS.. even when using Priority Mail.

Did the sender send it numbered insured, or insured for under $200? if under 200, it does not need to be signed for. NEVER send a cue ,case, expensive item, etc., without a numbered ins. label. That way, when the parcel is delivered someone has to sign for it. If the parcel is damaged or opened missing contents, you may refuse it at that time which leaves the problem in the post offices hands. This does happen from time to time, but i think it seems more frequent due to the close knit nature of this forum. You don't hear about all of the good deliveries that go off without a hitch, it's human nature to accept the good and tell everyone about the bad. I wish you the best of luck.

When I ship a cue I always use UPS and have never had a problem. That being said I have had many (more) cues shipped to me using US mail and never had a problem.

I don't know this to be true but suspect with UPS its easier to maintain the trail of individual resposability thus it is less likely to result in a problem.

I mean we all know the term "going postal"

I've worked in China, Venezuela, Mexico, and Puerto Rico on major construction projects and when items need to be shipped we ALWAYS use DHL. I've never had a poor experience with them.

We tried FedEX as well as UPS and you just can't beat DHL.

When I ship cues, I wrap the crap out of them. Aside from a lot of bubble wrap and a ton of tape, I usually either put a box in a box or a tube in a box (or use those indestructable tubes that seyberts uses). I've never had anything lost or damaged in transit but I do get the odd complaint from the buyer that it took them 10 minutes to get to the cue :)

This happened to me only once. A guy on ebay called 7sun7child7 many, many years ago. I can't remember his name. He sent me an empty case that was supposed to contain a Richard Black. I had to pay $400 duty on collection. I opened it in front of the delivery guy and told him to take the package away...promptly getting my $400 back when I discovered a cue-less package. He tried to make out Fedex must have pinched the cue, yeah right.

Anyway, after a few heated phone calls and friends who lived in neighbouring states with large hand cannons, I got everything back.

It was way before I joined AZ. Some of you may recollect him. He was on ebay spouting about how he was selling cues to get his son back....FOS!!!

I'm not saying it is relevant in this case as I don't know any of the buyers or sellers involved. However, shipping an empty box is a well-known and well-used scam, so much so that the credit-card processors all have a category just for these types of disputes, as well as all the shipping carriers. It's a much more effective method of stealing than simply not shipping as insurance claims and credit card chargeback disputes all center around the tracking and signatures which are obtained in good order when an empty box is shipped.

Again, I don't know the people involved in these particular circumstances. I would be interested to know who the 2 shippers were in these two cases that coincidentally happened at the same time.

I had a cue shipped to me and the end came off. Luckily, the cue was wedged in there really tight. It was in there and luckily water was not an issue.

I have also had UPS just leave a $2000+ cue on my door before. I always have people ship to my office. The cuemaker did not call and just used my home address.
