How rare is it to be able to do this?

My buddy can put the cue ball hanging in one corner pocket, an object ball hanging in the other corner pocket and make the ball and draw the cue all the way back and scratch in the pocket the cue was near originally. On his 9 footer. I thought it was really impressive considering the distance from cue ball to object ball.

Rare but not impossible. He must have a good stroke and the cue ball must be clean and polished in my opinion. Can he do it twice in a row?

He can do it twice in a row but he can also miss the scratch a couple times in a row. He always gets the draw. He's so naturally talented. Shame he doesn't really love the game. He'll go months and months without touching a cue, join a league for a session, then quit for a long time again. Frustrating watching someone waste all that talent

Pretty rare indeed, Magyar.
I've never seen it done. I've never done it myself, nor tried, nor would even dare to.

We're assuming the CB and OB are diagonally set from each other.
I would imagine he jacks up significantly and hits down "into" the pocket space to get so much spin on the CB.

Would love to see the shot.
Tell your buddy to record it and get back to us on this forum.

There are probably many people out there that are capable of doing amazing things on and off the table. If the game of pool does not "do it" for them then....oh well.

I have known many who are so talented that it blows me away to think what they could do if they just wanted too.

I second that recording of the shot.

The way most people do this is to train a straight stroke, they shoot with the cueball near the corner pocket and the object ball mid table. I think the draw from pocket to pocket cross corner is quite a bit tougher than the mid table shot. Easier to make the ball, but a LOT harder to hit it accurately and with enough stroke to draw it back.

Would love to see it done. If it was done during a trick shot world competition this shot would not be out of place at all.

only a few

I've seen Kim Davenport do it , Earl of course , and Larry Nevel . Not very many others are even going to have that kind of stroke or maybe they do and I haven't seen it or they or more reserved and don't go for it on wild shots.

In a trick shot video I made I do a similar shot around the 1:45 mark. I know his shot is significantly more difficult but I'm just a league player only.

So I'm confident he can do it and I'm 50% sure I could do it with enough incentive to abuse my equipment.

SS or it didn't happen.

my buddy told me he saw earl do something similar on a snooker table.

the set up was like this- he put the cue ball in the jaws of a corner pocket, and put the object ball dead center of the table. (after a few tries) he pockets the object ball into the corner pocket diagonally across the table and draws the cue ball back into the jaws of the pocket where it lay originally.

freaking earl man.

Its rare to be able to make it scratch often, but there are many players who can get that much draw. Have him try it with the object ball 1/4 table in front of the pocket. Being able to do that and scratch with any consistency would be something special.

I saw a guy named Billy in central georgia pull that shot on a 10ft snooker table. What impressed me more was putting a ball on the central spot and the cb in the corner and shooting the ball in the opposite corner and following it in. I'd say he could hit both shots around 2-3 out of five on a good day.

Wasn't that one of Jonathan Pinegars "hustle" shots?

Hope he is doing okay. Has anyone heard about/from him?

If you put out the cue ball about one foot, this shot is in my practice routine. I probably get back to the corner maybe 6 out of 10 times and scratch maybe 2 times. the other four hits may come all the way back to my end of the table, but drift off to one side due to a little side spin. I use championship cloth and if the cloth is cleaned and I have put the balls through a polisher first, the accuracy and draw are much easier to do without as much force. Your buddy has a great solid stroke to do this repeatedly. To me though, look at how great some people hit these trick shots in a trick shot tournament, awesome, but, get out played in tournaments of any kind.

That's very impressive to have that kind of power plus accuracy in your stroke! You could poll a 100 descent players and if you found 5 out of 100 who could do this I'd be surprised. The balls and the cloth would need to be clean and an excellent stroke to go corner to corner and draw the ball straight back into the pocket you started from. I know I can't do it and I've played most of my life!

Luxury beat me to him - so i'll throw Bob Jewett and CJ on the table. i can't remember their exact shots, but they were similar.

post a video for us!
