How tight are your pockets?

MOTHER OF GOD!!!!!

Are those 4.25" pockets?

Those look so tight, they could make a grown man cry lol.

The tightest I've played on was a trip-shim GC4, several yrs ago. I couldnt make but a couple balls in a row on that table. But scratching lol, alot of the time, It seemed that was easier than making a ball lol.

Now I am stuck with playing on a 9ft Diamond Pro-am for tight pockets.

Infamous table #16 at Broadway Billiards in NYC. Notice also the tip of the pocket -- they're semi-round like a snooker table. The sad thing is that this isn't even the tightest pocket, nor the one with the roundest "tips" (if you can even call them that!). I was happy the first time I ran a rack on this table! Once while playing the ghost I almost ran two, but missed a very makeable 9-ball (tho on this table, anything can be missed!)

Good luck trying to shoot a ball down the rails! Even at pocket speed you're happy to get it in!

i don't have a job so my pockets are pretty tight. ha i've played on pockets almost as tight as in the pictures but not quite. i still couldn't run more than 4 balls it frustrated me so much. i bought some pocket tighteners and i keep 'em in my car now

Hollywood Billiards has a table that tight (#16). I've stopped going to that pool hall recently, but when I was I was shooting pretty comfortably into those. Really helps your game out and builds your confidence - after it strips you of it.

Seriously, why do that? I abuse myself enough already at this game. That's insane.

Tightest table I ever played on was at Barry's place (Cue Masters) in Virginia years ago.

They rightfully nicknamed that table the "Virgin Mary".

The place I frequent has 1 table that's as tight as the first picture (more or less). The others can fit 2 balls and room for some change. Yeah, pockets at hollywood billiards are tight, at least all 7 tables that I've used there, the others are probably just as tight.

EDIT: Just realized from another topic that the hollywood billiards I mentioned was different from the one mentioned above. :D

Steven,

I think playing on that table might cause me to go and hang myself lol. Although my family might sue the pool hall then lol jk.

As much as i love playing on tighter tables, I hate looking like a banger on them. But on the flip side, when you go from a tight table to a regular GC lol, its like everything is way too easy and you make everything lol.

haha its almost like playing regular pool on a snooker table minus the size of the actual table.

they look like 4 inch pockets

In the pictures in the first post, those look like 4 inch pockets
to me. That's the size of the pockets on all of the tables at
one place I play at. Makes for a tough tournament (nine-ball).

I've been hitting balls lately on a triple shim GC with pocketss just like in the first pics. After a while you forget about the pocket size and just play, but I'm reminded how tight they are when a ball rattles! the best I put on that table is 42 after about 6 hours on it. Lke has been said, after that...all other tables seem super soft.

I wouldn't recommend a newer player practicing on tables like that. It can do nasty voodoo stuff to your stroke long term!:)

here's my triple shimmed GC III with the shims slightly angled to make the pockets a little tougher. the side pockets are close to the same. it took me a little time getting used to but runouts are pretty common now.

My GCIII has single shimmed pockets, they measure 4 5/8".

IMO, those pockets shown are insane. Except for one pocket tables like that are useless.

My Diamond pockets are 4.25". You have to shoot the ball into the hole. No nonchalantin :D .

I have more fun on my grandsons 7 ft table which has 5" pockets and virtually no shevles. Everything close goes in. I look like a freakin pro when I play that table.

Hmm, didn't realize they played snooker on the Viking tour.

Well, I guess you won't have to worry about anyone running out the set on you.

I am in agreement, there are far too many shots that cannot be done w/ pockets that tight.

I don't know about this supertight pocket thing. I went on a tight pocket practice binge last summer and I noticed that I started stroking the ball for pocket speed for nearly every shot, and focusing less on leave throughout my whole game. My feelings are supertight pockets, although fun once in a while, if you're not careful they can discourage certain critical elements, at least for me anyways.

I don't understand why some folks angle the pockets so much when they shrink them down. It can make a routine rail shot where you need to get the cue ball back to the other end of the table nearly impossible. I don't see the value in that.

Right. If you run a ball straight down the rail at a reasonable speed and the ball does not drop in the pocket, just move on.
