How to check for a weight bolt...?

My friend has a cue made by Dave Kikel. He wants to check for a weight bolt to lighten the cue. He's already tried screwing and pulling the butt cap off with no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Also...does anyone own or know someone who owns a similar cue? We are also trying to get an age and an approximate price for it.

Any way to get it out without destroying it if they did? Fast, are you in AZ? Ever removed a glued bumper?

CAREFULLY......

HOPEFULLY IT ISN'T LOADED WITH GLUE. IF IT IS, IT'S NOT COMING OUT IN RE-USEABLE CONDITION.

SORRY, ALL THE WAY ON THE OTHER SIDE OTHER THE COUNTRY.

Magnet

I know when cue makers are doing conversion cues they check the butt sleeve with a magnet to make sure there is no lead poured into it before they use the bandsaw. Try a magnet.

I'm sorry for my ignorance, but what would that do? Is that just to check for a weight bolt? Do you think this is a conversion cue?
 
To check

You said you wanted to check for a weight bolt to lighten the cue. You can check with a magnet. No sense ripping the rubber bumper off if their is no weight bolt inside.

They check for lead with a magnet?

That's one special magnet.



Folks, a weight bolt can be far down into the handle and not be anywhere near the butt sleeve. And if it has lead in it, a magnet obviously won't help. There isn't a sane cue maker alive that checks conversion blanks for lead with a magnet. Lead isn't magnetic.

Either pull the bumper out or take it to a repair man to do it. Yes, you might break the rubber. Even if you find a weight bolt, you won't know how big it is or how much it weighs. Also, it could be aluminum.....which by the way isn't magnetic either. So it very well could have a bolt and a magnet would not demonstrate it.

A magnet will work if it has a steel weight bolt in it.

Yep. I just thought that, with the wealth of knowledge and helpful people on this forum, I might get some answers here. Had some good advice through PMs and I learned more about weight bolts and magnets. No estimates on the value yet from forum members, but Mr. Kikel should be able to answer all questions. Thanks to all for the tips and for learnin' me some. ;)
