I belive you can draw out to the center of the table from there ,not an easy shot on the 2 most likely but you will certainly have an angle to get on the 3,thats if you have to shoot,if not then im locking the guy up on the 4 ball.

A. Shooting against a weaker opponent
B. Who was already down $120
C. And there was little realistic chance of him getting out even if I missed.
In this thread, I was mainly commenting that nowhere outside of a ring game or prop bet would I shoot this shot, risking jawing it with a wide open table.
Now, if there was a tough cluster somewhere on the table? Yes.. I would possibly shoot it, and it is not an automatic loss if I miss.
These sorts of things are just like poker.. HIGHLY dependent on the situation...

If you're asking whether these are useful enough to spend time learning: Jump shot yes. Rail assisted jump shot no.
I've never needed to know a rail assisted jump shot.

If the intent was to show an entertaining shot, it worked - I was entertained. In fact, I've posted similar shots for that pupose.
If it was to show a shot that I might want to use some time in a real game that I wanted to win, it didn't work for me. If it does for you I'm glad.
By the way, here's the reason I don't see the utility of the shot: it's too chancy even with practice. How much do you think your percentage goes down for a given shot when you have to jump the CB into the OB at an angle (you know the aim changes depending on how high the CB is when it hits the OB, right)? What do you suppose the odds are of making the 1 and hitting the 2 in the first example (you know the carom angle changes with the height of the CB, right)? I don't mean after trying it several times - I mean cold out of the gate in a game situation.

I agree with Patrick on the idea of not practicing these one off shots. It's just not worth the time, for the most part.
The ball assisted jump shot I made in the money game was never practiced. For me, the IDEA of the shot was enough. You pick opportunities where you stand little chance to LOSE, and every chance to win...Or simply where you are forced to shoot some wacky shot, as in a ring game, etc..

It's hard to tell if the cueball can get inbetween the 8 and 4 but if I had to get on the 2 no matter what I would use a force follow stroke, and atleast try to use the right side of the 8 as a rail and just get the cueball down into that area, maybe even get it inbetween the 9 and 6 ball.
If the cueball can get inbetween the 8 and 4 I would use a tip above centre and use a stun follow and make suring to hit the side rail with inside english, but that might not even be required.
If cueball can't go inbetween them, and you have a good stroke just try to draw it with maybe alittle right hand english (might not even be required hard to tell).

I would also play a safety in a match, but when asked hot to get out from that position, I would try to contribute by giving a route for exactly that... If you can't do that, well, then find another thread to post in...
