How to suck the credibility and fun out of an ESPN tourny?

I watched the 2 semi's and the 1 final of the Ultimate Pool Party and thought it was a little hokey (it would have been so much better if they'd just play pool). However, when Mitch and Ewa presented the winners with framed pictures of themselves (Mitch and Ewa) I turned off the TV in disgust. I realize that it would not complement the theme (pool players visiting Mitch and Ewa's house for some fun pool) if they gave money or a big trophy, but maybe they should have thought of that when they came up with this format. Next year, will I care who won the framed pic? NOOOOOO!.

Your right, that's pretty sad, I wonder what Lee Trevino would of said if he got a picture of himself for a similar event. :D :D

The prize in the Ulimate Pool Party was a picture of Ewa and Mitch together.

the humor was very fitting for most pool hall junkies

That was the end of the show. So you shut it off after you watched the whole thing. It must have been pretty good for you to stick around to the very end.

I thought it was pretty entertaining and a lot of people around here thought so too.

It was just a fun time by the pros. And still they made everything look so easy.

Well put!!

I watched celebrety poker this weekend. I'm not a poker player, and I didn't care who won. I watched it because they were having fun and it was very entertaining.

Do you suppose some non-poolplayers might find the same thing happening when watching the ultimate pool party? It's ENTERTAINMENT, pure and simple. I see nothing at all wrong with that.

personally i thought it was very corny. you could tell that corey was fake smilin most of the time. he was probably sittin there thinkin, " man, i could be out playin real pool right now".

either way it probably was fun to watch for the average non-pool player. even though i wont watch it anymore, im glad that there is pool on tv, period.

Corney is a good word, they barely had my attention for 5 minutes. I guess we'll stoop to any level to get pool on tv ...even if it is bad.

Damn, i'm so glad i didnt watch Ultimate Pool Party when it was on ESPN.

So a toss up, which was worse? Ballbreakers or UPP????

I tried watching a episode or two or ballbreakers and felt like my IQ just dropped 50points.

Expecially after they lagged going short rail lol.

Honestly, it was real bad. I watched about ten minutes of it last week and I couldn't take it any longer.

First of all the pool stunk, I want to see these players compete not fake conversation and make believe smiles.

No one I know, player or not, would vote to give it an Emmy. In fact, I can hear non playing people asking me how I can spend five hours at a time playing that game. Guess I'll have to take them to the local poolroom and show them.

I've played in a scotch doubles format, and they made it look a lot easier than it is. I'll be the first one to tell you I'm a novice player with a lot to learn. I was particularly interested in listening to the teams talk about the lay of the table, how they were going to approach the run etc. I also thought the ball control was super.

The trophy was bogus, if there's some inside story about Ewa and Mike, it was over my head. It should have been a pooldawgs.com 8 ball on a trophy for each member of the team.....I got the impression that they wouldn't have played for a stupid picture if they'd known....

I TIVOed both Semis and the finals of the Pool Party Tourney. I found it very entertaining. I must admit the trophy made me chuckle though.

C'mon, gang, the whole thing was meant to be corny and a partial put-on, and the "trophy" was in keeping with that. I thought it was fun if you accepted it for what it was.

I turned it on and wanted my nephew to watch it but I turned the station because it was so embarrasing. IMHO it was a disgrace.

I liked it. Here are the reasons: Usually when we watch these players they are very focused on winning and we don't see a lot of the interaction between them as we would in a more casual atmosphere. This was more like it would be if they got together as friends and played a few games socially with nothing on the line. I also liked hearing the discussions about the progression of shots. It was just a different way of presenting the game in an atmosphere that is probably closer to what the "average" pool player encounters at the bar or their favorite room with a group of friends. It was a party, not a competition. The play was pretty high quality, though. I only saw the finals and found myself wishing I had seen the earlier rounds.
