... Are you capable of running a Rack of 14/1, can you break & run 8 in one pocket, or at what level do you play? Do you Hustle pool as you means of income ?
If you go to the straight pool forum and check out the 2007 and 2006 challenge numbers, you will see how a lot of the participants here play 14.1.

Hustling pool to make money is a separate skill, and has more to do with how much time you're willing to spend in bars and lie to people. It helps to play really well, but it's not required. A friend of mine made his living in this area for several years by playing pool, and he played about even with me, which is to say not that well. He did look clumsy and dumpy at the table, and he was not shy about using sharp tactics.

When people ask how good a pool player I am I say I am a sporadic inconsistent player.

If they want to know how good I play on any given day come watch me and make up their own minds.

If someone pay me a compliment on my play, great short, etc., my normal reply is nothing more than a thank you.

It is easier to let my Cue do the talking, than to try and live of to saying how good or bad I am. Besides everyone has a poor day of playing pool.

Around here, players are ranked as follows:

Pro, Open+, Open, A+ through D.

I'm ranked as an A+. From my perspective, that means some days I play pretty well and some days I don't. I've run as many as 5 racks in 9-ball and run in the 60's a couple times playing straight pool (though I consider that high-run artificially low since I don't play 14.1 very often). However, I'm liable to play pretty crappy some times. I'm hoping in the near future to play professional caliber, if only for a day (and may that day be an important one).

Pretty Bad

I'm not very good, I don't ever play 9 ball and I break and run in 8 ball just about as often as 9 ball. Just started playing 14.1 and my highest run is 16 and it was not pretty. Still love it though.

Probably a low C? That's just a guess, I don't really know where I would rank. Played in my first 9 ball tournament last night and came in 8th out of 30 something. I can break and run if there's nothing too tricky...on average I'll run 5-6 balls before making an error. High run in 14.1 is something terrible like 18, but I haven't played it very much.

In the handicap tournaments i play in at Hall of fame i am classified as an A-
I have finished 8th in the open tournament there and 3rd in the handicap tournament. I would say A- is close to being about how i play but i have had many lapses lately where i play like a D+. I guess we all strive for consistency, and thats what i am working towards.

How well do I shoot ???

Well, I was the star in the hit movie "Poolhall Flunkies" !!! :D :D :D :D

I play like a girl!

In the local handicap tourneys I am ranked as A+, which means I gotta spot more people games than I get spotted. I play in the occassional WPBA event and am on the BCA Master's list. So I do have my good days, but most days I play like a girl. :p

I have lowered my expectations since all I can play is 1x a week and sometimes not even that.

At the most recent DCC it seemed to me that there were 1000 players and 995 of them could beat me.

All I know is I could be better than I am. And that's pretty much my constant goal - to get better, no matter how good/bad I am at the time.

Well easy enough topic for my first post. Im still just a bit above beginning player have played for a few years , but only in the last 6 to 9 months have started getting where I am actively learning to get better. I have just started playing striaght pool and dont even want to get into how bad I am 18 is by best and that was a good day. I am at this point working actively on improving my game almost daily so check back in a while

yeah, truthfully Id consider myself an A player, several years ago when I was really just starting to play well I was ranked an 8 and I won alot of those tournaments. I play alot better now I suppose but I am having trouble finishing racks so Im gonna say a 5 speed could tear me up at the moment, I mean anyone could knock in a ball or two....EVERY RACK. shoot id get beat 11-0

I am playing in a tournament in Abington VA the last sunday of this month so I quess you fellow AZ'ers could come watch me choke on the 9 every rack... hehe thats really not funny.

Depends on what day it is, what's today? I guess somewhere between a B- and a B+, what's that? a B? I've run 4 racks in a row of 9-ball, 3 of 8-ball, and 34 in straight pool, but can't do this every day. I think that's around a B something. :p
