I hit this shot Friday night in a tourney for the win in the match, I hit the cue ball with left middle english and the cue ball went 2 rails and scratched in the side.

I would have tried to shoot it so it didn't scratch.

There is a picture below, but you can't see it coz you are to dum.:D:D

Seriously though, the ball goes where you make it go.

It doesn't look like you need to hit it hard enough to go two rails,

This is a typical error that many players make. When you are playing the 9 ball be sure to play shape for another imaginary ball so you don't let the ball go flying(uncontrolled). Agree with Neil...some right hand english with a soft touch will kill the cue ball speed off the rail to about mid table and keep the angle from scratching in the corner in case your touch is a little off.

speed is not everything but it sure is nice.

right english on the cut could surely change the cue's natural path as would left english. from the shot diagram i don't think you would have scratched with right or left as long as top or draw english is not used. and again speed can change everything. looks like a shot to put in your repertoire(spellchecked-no way in the world am i going to get that one right!) for the future.

IM not sure how its possible to hit that with mid outside english and scratch 2 rails. Maybe 3 rails if you KILL it, but 2 rails is rough with running english.
I really dont see the need to use english unless you are going to kill it off the first rail. I dont even thank that is that necessary as the natural position does not scratch.

I would shot this with slow speed and just a touch of left so you go with the cue ball one rail just above the opposite side pocket.
