This is similar to a trick shot in one of the women's trick shot challenges on ESPN...The trick was to thin the nine ball down into the corner pocket with the cue elevated, bouncing off the back of the side pocket and back onto the table bed. Am I remembering that correctly?

Here is my answer before I look at any of the other answers.
This is very dependent on how thick you can hit the 9 and still beat the kiss. It may only be possible to get the 9 ball to go two rails and end up about 6-9 inches off the bottom rail.
If hit THAT thin, special attention should be paid to cue ball end position..
There is also the option, if you have very good speed control on soft draws, to bank the 9 ball directly to the middle of the end rail, and draw the cue ball into the middle of the table.. Like so..
Edit: Looking back at my diagram, I think the speed lays better for the cue ball to die on the fourth rail.. Even then, you have a second opportunity for a kiss out.
I like the corner hook idea. I posted a carom angle technique before that would be quite useful here.. Find the point on the pocket face you'd like the cue ball to snug up to. Then, drop a line straight to the closest point on the OB. Then, aim the center of the cue ball at the point you found on the OB, and with a very soft follow, hit the OB.
This requires a very fine touch at the angle given. Practice it before you try this in a game..

There is a trick-shot set up exactly like this... jack up on the ball a bit and fire... the cue hits the back of the side-pocket and bounces right back out.
I wouldn't shoot that for the cash, but I'd love to see someone else do it.

I think the corner hook that people are taking about is done by playing fairly full on the right side of the nine (from the cue ball's view) to roll nearly into the side pocket and stop on the shelf just before the scratch. Tough to judge the speed if you don't play such extremely soft shots normally, so it's more of a one pocket than nine ball shot.

hmm normally if in comp/money id play the soft draw option placing the 9 on the top cushion and white in the middle, but wud definately be playing the kick off the jaw onto the nine sendin it up the rail into the pocket if it was an exhibition at hill-hill for $500 and must say if i was flying (dead stroke) in a tourney id quite possibly consider that kick shot too.
