if the tin man can get to at least the 1st diamond on the short rail (which is not that tough) he will not break out the balls and will beat you every time. I would love to see someone bet against him over and over on that shot.

I set this up last night. Cutting the seven and breaking the five is a no go, although I already knew that. I made it a few times but just doesn't offer any real benefit. Thinning the seven two rails out and leaving the cue way up table is the way I like. If the seven just clears the eight and stays near the pocket you can mesh the break out and run from there. You could also safe of the five quite easily if he gives ball in hand.
His is why I like eight ball. Most people don't give these end game scenarios enough credit. Without the magic rack, when you're not guaranteed these perfect spreads, this game can be quite challenging. The best breakfast will still win, but they have to work for it.

I'd probably do this, and I would be thinking about maximizing the safety.

In my opinion, this option increases your chances of winning the game. There's a slight chance to break the cluster after thin cutting the 7 ball, but there isnt any guarantee that the balls will fall out properly for a continuance of play. More than likely, you'll be forced to another safety shot after. Better to duck this shot and setup a break shot. The opponent is forced to either give you ball in hand or break the cluster. There's a slight chance he can pocket the ball, but I don't like those odds. I'm sure Efren would find some magic if asked to make the shot. I think us mere mortals have to do a safety shot instead.
Unfortunately, since it was a PPV event, they don't plan on getting the matches to Youtube for about 6 months.

how many times out of ten can an A player kick that 13 in from the end rail?
I would bet efren would be about 10% or less
maybe 1 rail, but hitting the second rail changes things, unless i'm seeing it wrong. this is assuming the carom isn't on. (to the left or right corner.)

The 7/8 was struck hard enough they don't cluster. If you are lucky-ish. Cb is in line with the 5/13 . A player doesn't even try to make the hit from the North Pole. You get BIH, bunt the 5 in front of the top L) pictured pocket and leave him stuck to the 13, cb where the 5 was.
He either comes with a kick to pocket the 13 or turns you loose.
