How Would You Run These Balls?

100% correct, esp on procut diamonds, alternate break/short format.

Opinions vary. I like to win so I'm going for the run. I am confident in my ability to make that shot and shape the one ball again. I don't like the bank shot. My chances are improved with the combo.

I think if I was going to pass the shot, I would roll the cue ball to the corner pocket everyone is banking at and leave it up against the long rail right by the corner pocket.

Me too. I like what ONB did by taking a layout from a pro match and allowing people to give their take before showing how the pro executed. It's a great thread format, imo.

This was against Steve Mizerak and it doesn't look like the pockets were too tight. It was a race to 11, winner breaks, and commentator Cardone said that C.J. had won his last match 11-5 against Varner and had only missed one ball the entire match. He was playing very well indeed.

Nothing wrong with advocating for your choice but the fact is the bank is much easier than the combo on the 1/2.

What the hell does that have to do with anything in regards to playing the bank or the safe. If the ball goes in on the bank then your partner has an easy shot on the 2. If the cb freezes to the 6 and the opponent misses then your partner gets ball in hand...

What does world champions playing scotch have to do with playing the table?

Apparently you do need to say more...
 
Earlier in the thread, I listed my reasons for banking the 1 and attempting the run-out. I neglected to make my case against attempting the safety behind the 6 ball. Personally, I think that playing off the 1 into the 2 to hook your opponent behind the 6 is a very difficult safety from that layout. If you don't hit it hard enough, the 1 might not go very far. If you hit it too hard, you might make the 2. If you bump the 6 (before or after the two), there's a good chance of bumping it out of the way and leaving them a clear shot to the side or corner.

I think the safety is just too touchy a shot for me, so I'd rather take my chances at the bank, hoping to either make it and stay at the table or hook them behind the 2/6 off 2 rails.

As I wrote earlier I agree with you and your reasoning. I forgot to mention the possibility of the cueball hitting the 6 ball so thanks for mentioning it.

I appreciate that there is nothing wrong with advocating for my choice. After all, that's what you asked for in the original post and it's pretty much what we're all doing here.

The fact that the bank may be easier for most people isn't really in doubt. I agree with you that the bank is probably easier for most folks. My reply was only about my choice. I am comboing that shot before trying the bank.

It may be easier for everyone else but it isn't easier for me. Opinions vary. You asked what I would do not what Shane and the pro circuit would do. I practice combos constantly. I don't really practice banking much.

Shane would bank it. I would combo it.

I've always respected a man who has an opinion and sticks by it, good for you.

My threads asking about the shots always require different opinions from different people. Everyone sees things differently and that's how we learn.

I'm making that 1 ball 90 plus percent and getting lucky 50 percent of time it misses. I can live or should I say thrive with those odds.
You guys only see one answer. You limit yourselves and your game. If it's early in the set I shoot all day. If I am up say 7 to 4 going to 9 I shoot. If I need a and they are on hill or pre hill I might play safe...but if I'm shooting good sometimes you gotta make your own luck.
Look I play for decent money ALL the time. If you don't then you are certainly a better person than me....If you play for something and push by our game well you would be open to other opinions. Can't tell you how many money matches I win by resafing an impos edible hit, jumping in a ball or coming with a otherwise impossible shot. If you only leave your opponent an impossible way to get out sometimes they find it. They can't win from the chair.
If you don't bank this 1 ball then you must not bank anything.

I'm not looking to hustle the local b players, I'm looking to beat champions. I'll stick with the right move for the situation.

In that illustration, the right move was to play the lock up safe, which I will hit 95 out of a 100.

You flatter yourself again.
I play real players in big events all the time.

So you advocate passing on the bank on the one that I will make 90 percent? Its a natural 2 way safe. A cut shot down the rail is harder! Its a straight in bank with lock shape on the 2. I'm out 85 percent from there.

Love to see you when the opponent kicks in your safe or gets lucky and sticks you.

So where am I after this safe? Locked down? Cause if it's a one or 2 rail kick it's gonna get hit and leave you a tougher shot than the bank ever was or luck safe. If you play B players then do what you want.
