Earlier in the thread, I listed my reasons for banking the 1 and attempting the run-out. I neglected to make my case against attempting the safety behind the 6 ball. Personally, I think that playing off the 1 into the 2 to hook your opponent behind the 6 is a very difficult safety from that layout. If you don't hit it hard enough, the 1 might not go very far. If you hit it too hard, you might make the 2. If you bump the 6 (before or after the two), there's a good chance of bumping it out of the way and leaving them a clear shot to the side or corner.
I think the safety is just too touchy a shot for me, so I'd rather take my chances at the bank, hoping to either make it and stay at the table or hook them behind the 2/6 off 2 rails.
