How Would You Shoot The 7?

Turning the image really shows how you simply cannot tell what is going on from a picture. When you set up these wwyd layouts on an actual table (and try your best to place the balls as close as you can get them) you gain even more insight into what is possible and what is not.

For this reason, especially when we are talking about top pros that ONB gets these screenshots from, one must give the benefit of the doubt to the shooter. Incardona says that during his commentary all the time:)

seeing it the other way it does look different. I would really have to approach the shot to really know what I would do. I probably would still favor follow, I could slide under that nine if I needed to, I've slid through tighter spaces than that. Again though I'd really need to be at the table to answer this one.

From the different views of the table it looks like bottom left would give an easy enough shot on the 7 (not a power shot that'll rattle) and send the cue ball to the long rail between the 9 and side. The 8 doesn't seem awful from over that way, and position to the 9 from there is easy enough to pay more attention to making the 8.

just draw it over towards the long rail and its an easy out. why make it complicated.

I'd make the 7, leave myself tough on the 8,,,, hang the 8 and my opponent would tap in the 8 and make the 9.

I'll hit that shot on newer cloth. On worn cloth that doesn't grab draw very well, I'm following with a little bit of inside all day. The follow is a more natural path for the cue ball.

Since it hasn't been mentioned yet...

Bank the 7 into the pocket by the 8 and draw straight back. Looks pretty close to natural, but could probably be corrected with a touch of left or right as needed.

Depending on how the pockets are accepting balls, this is the easiest make with position.

Any spelling errors I'm blaming on autocorrect :)

Low left and hitting the top side of the 9 will work too.
Not a "power" stroke but a "lots-a-spin" stroke.

I've just set this up and the draw onto the side rail with a little left never failed for me in probably 10 attempts. Then I tried stun. Stun over below the 9 with about a tip and a half of inside and went 3, sometimes 4 rails. Again this was successful every time. Those would be my two preferred shots. But since my table plays how I like it I might opt to use follow and inside on the one rail route if I was on a table that isn't looked after.

You dont have to be SVB or Mika to shoot a draw shot for position in this scenario, even on worn/slow cloth. Why pick a shot that might mess up the layout?
If you think this is a hard shot to play with draw, you need to work on your technique.

Follow is the shot! 2 rails between the nine and rail. If you hit the nine the speed will seperate the balls enough to where you have to be real unlucky to not have a shot.

Cant believe anyone would try duck under the 9. What happens if you hit the 9 full ball, or don't quite get the angle right and flick off the 9 and leave the cb on the side the 8 is on? It would be a shot I would try when the table is far more congested, its more like a shot on the 1 ball when there are too many balls and this may be the easiest route. Its no where near the easiest route. Id love to know what goes through peoples minds when they look at a situation like this and think you know what, I'm squeezing past that 9.

Im thinking, I didnt get the angle I wanted on the 7 but this is still easy enough.

A touchy spot to be in. How would you shoot the 7 ball?

Top right lots of green to miss the 9 and pull excellent shape on the 8. Straight top or top left U risk hitting the 9. Bottom you send cue ball towards side pocket not much point in that when you have plenty of room to use top right and come straight back up the table.

But you should do what is more natural for you to pocket the ball and pull good enough shape to make the 8 and 9.
