Very sad news. I remember him when he was hanging in SoCal in early 80's.

sorry to here about howard....i have played with several of his cues and they were good players....

So sorry to hear about Howard. He manged Bogies in Houston for a time in the late 90's. He was a generous, kind-hearted person. I'm sure he will be missed by many.

I am very sorry to hear this. Howard was a really good friend of mine and is a great person. He will be missed.

Humphrey, very sorry to hear this news. Howard was very gracious to me when I was in N.O. many years ago. He was a good man. Howard...RIP

Howard was a good guy for sure.

Howard suffered with some serious kidney problems for years.

He was also a fixture at Buffalo Billiards in Chalmette, LA during and after Hurricane Katrina, swimming in the flooded waters to contact other people stranded in the flood.

Howard gave me two pieces of advice that I remember about pool and in honor of Howard I will share those on my next commentator gig.

I remember Howard playing Jimmy Reid at Rackateer's back in the day and holding his own.

RIP Howard Ikeda.

I played Howard in a tournament in GA in the early '90s. He beat me, of course. I remember him as a true gentleman. I'm very sorry to hear of his passing.

Sorry to hear that bad news, Humph. I grew up around Howard when Howard was in California, back when I was 15 and 16 years old. The last time I saw him was in New Orleans. He might have been running your place.

I used to play him and Hawaiian Jay partner games all the time, but in tournaments, he was very hard to beat. It took a very good player to beat him. There's no doubt about that.

Rest in peace, Howard.

Sorry to hear of his passing. I met him when he recovered my table about 13 years ago. Haven't had it re-done since. He did such a great job on it, I always thought I'd try to find him to do it again. I remember him as a kind, humble person. Rest in peace Howard.

He was always a pleasure to be around in life or match play. You'll be missed. Anyone have a pic?

He will be missed

I was sad to hear about Howard. He was such a great man. I thought I would take a moment and share my greatest memory of Howard.

Many, many years ago, Howard made this young soon to be mom and pool player a deal. He told me that if I ever won a tournament that he would make me a custom cue. He would coach me every chance we got. When I was almost full term I finally did won a tournament. he was so excited and proud of me that he started on my stick right away. When he finished it and I ran my fingers around the ebony and gold rings as I looked at the glossy shine of the mother of pearl and the rich vibrant colors of the purple heart wood, he told me i earned every bit of it. He also promised me that he would never make a stick like it again. I played with that stick proudly for years until it was stolen.

I will miss him dearly,
My regards go out to any family he may have out there.
I wish I still had that stick but it was stolen out of my vehicle when it was stolen near Baton Rouge

Hey Guy,

Are you talking about the Las Vegas Howard Ikeda? Haven't seen him in the pool rooms for a while. Really didn't know his history. Only played him in small bar box events. Sad loss. Hope he knew he had many friends in the pool world.

Lyn

Thanks. Howard was a very good friend of many. Remember Howard well from his DFW days.

I knew Howard going way back to Hawaii and when he first came to California. I was the first guy to play him at the Billiard Den in Hollywood and we went round and round for two or three days playing 9-Ball and One Pocket. He got the best of me in 9-Ball and I almost got even at One Hole. I enjoyed gambling with him, as he never made any moves to shark me, which was unusual in those days. He was a class act even way back then.

We remained friends wherever our paths crossed and I last saw him working for Mike at the Omega booth not too long ago. I told Mike that this guy was once one helluva player and it was true. Howard loved to gamble at pool and very few players could handle him. Howard was a soft spoken guy, not one to blow his own horn. He was humble but also very proud. I was always happy to see him and I feel bad to hear that he's gone. I'll miss you my friend. :(
