HP2 vs WD700

Hi everybody!

Today I have been playing with my new HP2, i was using the wd 700 for about a year, and I have to say that honestly I didn't notice big differences between the two shafts.

I could play at my 100% since the first moment I put the HP2.

In terms of deflection, I think the WD700 has less deflection, It was very surprising to me because I thought that HP2 had less deflection than the WD700. (At least this is what I read in the web of mezz).

The hit of the HP2 is very stiff, the feedback is great, but now I'm in a dilemma because both shafts play extremely well and I don´t know what is the best option.

For what I know Mika, Chamat, and a lot of pros prefer the WD700. On the other hand the HP2 is more expensive than the WD700 so I suppose the HP2 should be better shaft for any reason.

Someone here has tested both shafts?. Any opinion will be appreciate.

Thx in advance folks.

Hi!

I have the same "problem" today.

Today i have played both shaft. The decision is so difficult for me.

Both shaft play very nice. Te WD700 have a very nice soft hit. My stroke is softer with this shaft. But the cue is with this shaft very heavy on the Back of the cue.

The HPII is a very nice shaft, too. Its better to control the cueball with it. Its heavier on the top if the cue. The stroke feels securer.

What shall i do? what shaft should i take?

If i take the more expensive hpII, i could sell it later if i change my opinion. Then i could buy the cheaper wd with this money.

But tomorrow i must play again with oth shafts

i'm glad you posted this, its the same question in my mind as I'll be soon ordering either a wd700 or the hpii, hopefully somebody can give us an input on these two shafts.

There was another tread recently (http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=209057) that discussed the two shafts. I made note of the following:

This is an iffy one.

Here's the deal. Both Mika, Myself, Klatt, and handful of others have commented on the difference between these two shafts. All of us agree that the Mezz specs are wrong. The WD700 feels like it has slightly less deflection than the Hybrid pro 2.

It's also possible that the shafts are so close (plus the fact that wood is not 100% consistent), that select WD700's play better than select Hybrid Pro 2s. It's possible that the ones we compared contained such inconsistencies.

Anyway, either way I strongly believe these are the best cues on the planet, however which model of shaft is better is still up for speculation.

i agree with nathan....i have both the hp2 and wd700 and the deflection is very very close between the two. probably too close to call give the above mentioned differences in wood.

either way you go, both are great shafts. the hp2 is much stiffer and has a different sound due to the composite core. the wd700 has a more traditional feel.

fwiw, my personal favorite mezz shaft is the alpha hybrid

Thx guys for your replies.

I think I'm going to play with the WD-700, only because I was pretty happy with this shaft and until now there's no improvement in my game with the HP2, neither the feeling or the deflection is better.

Nathan could you please tell us what the reason is for Mikka playing with the WD700 instead the HP2?
I say this because I know he remarked to Manuel Gama (Portugese strong pool player) that the WD700 is "the way to follow."

Thx in advance.

i'm guessing because they sell more of the WD700 that way. good chance they're cheaper to produce. that's my guess anyway

I must take a decision, today.

In my opinion, mika could play with every shaft on the world. He is awesome!

Mezz is his sponsor. And the WD700 is the closest shaft to the Predator 314/2! Its the same technic!
Or he makes promotion for the Shaft. So many Player buy a WD because mika is playing it!

Ok, i will take the WD700!

Its the mor natural shaft and my stroke is so soft with it!

The HPII is nice but its so stiff and unnatural. The most importent point of my choice is the very metal sound of the HPII-Hit.
Sorry, but its not my shaft.
Its a great shaft for sure, but not mine:grin-square:

Have a nice day!

Good stroke!

Go ahead with WD700 and Mezz EC7-R1

I've never asked Mika this, so I can't say for sure. I will however wager that it's simply because the the WD700 is the best mix of feel and performance of any shaft on the market.

Actually, the HPII is much more similar to a Predator than the WD700. The HPII has the same dead hit that a Predator does. Personally, I actually prefer that type of hit, which is why I play with the HPII, however most people much prefer the smoother and more responsive WD700.

hi, good to see u finally make decision :)

more expensive doesn't mean better, it's abt valuation ;)

i from snooker background, and tried WD700 and HP2

1st time i use WD700 using EC7-B

now using schon SP butt, and my friend using WD700 then he switch to HP2

what i feel abt those 2 shaft is, WD700 feel more "solid" than HP2

the deflection almost the same IMO

what i want to ask in those shaft is, HP2 using Carbon core in the center or the shaft

what is WD700 using? something inserted in the shaft to make low deflection IMO, but what material?

so right now i compensate to make cue tip "less aggresive" (flatter) so i can control the cue ball

otherwise i bit overwork cue ball when follow through :(

great discussion abt great shaft

Hi there,

both shafts are real *quality shafts*. It s just about your personal feeling. The HP2Pro is stiffer--and the balance of the cue is varying a bit.
Just YOU can say which one is better for you.
I for myself loved always very hard and stiff shafts- but the concept and hit of the WD700 is really great! Good feedback together with a good LD-Concept.
However you re deciding now-- you cannot really go wrong :-)

lg from overseas,

ingo
