I watched Hunter play a couple of years ago at the DCC. He was down by a good margin to Cary Dunn, but he held it together nicely and rallied for the win. Seemed like a nice guy and a real solid player.

Hunter is a great guy & someday he may be on top of the Pool world.

I've known Hunter for about 7 years, met him through Joe Tucker. Hunter was a mortgage broker, but had a sincere desire to play Pool as a Pro, which is a tough nut to crack... How many pros (paid professionals) do we have, 6 or 8...?

Hunter said his main problem was to maintain his game. He said there is no play where he lives, unless he gives himself a big handicap. That isn't a bad thing to do, but one has to have deep pockets in order to maintain that kind of "practice".

I've been around Pool for 55 years. It's hard for anyone to maintain "peak performance" under the constant stress of limited resources. I can only hope that Hunter will continually grow into to that high class champion I know him to be.

But now, Hunter must begin the process all over.

Last match's memories must be put aside to make way for new dreams to be fulfilled.

Future hopes and dreams are just that.

Hunter's best play will only come by his giving 100% to the present. That is the best any of us can do.

I hope he WINS enough money to make me somewhat correct.

I thought his hair made him look like the lead singer of the Goo Goo Dolls....
and I told him that. :)

Really nice guy. Had some good laughs with him a last month. Hope he gets deep in the final 32.

And Jay is spot on with his statements. Someone should definitely step up and sponsor him from within the industry. He is like the American prototype of the new breed of professional pool player. He approaches the game studiously and from all angles like the Euros and Asians.

Recently Ralf Eckert took him on as a student of the game so he is now on the fitness and nutrition regimen like so many of the European players. I only see him getting stronger and performing better over the next 2 years in major events.

Here's to hoping he does well and demonstrates to us all what happens when you treat the game like a sport and show up prepared.

I'd actually have to agree with this... it's really none of our business. He's seems very likeable, many people know him and speak highly of him, and he's trying to give the full time pro thing a shot...

I love this quote from that article..... And the other American player beside Van Boening, Hunter Lombardo, is making his first ever appearance on the big stage.(Lombardo plays in the losers bracket of his group Tuesday.) So realistically the hopes of the nation that created the great game of pool rest on the shoulders of one man.


I personally have known Hunter for a little over a year and a half and have to say that he is one of the nicest most dedicated people in pool. When it comes to knowledge of the game and straight forward fundamentals he is near the top. I have been around him when pros such as Corey Deuel and Thorsten Hohmann have been asking him for tips as well as suggestions on how to improve their game and strokes. He told me when we first met that he was going to focus his energies on pool for a year and see what happened, he truly believes that he can play with anyone in the world as long as he is focused and practiced and I believe him.

As far as I know he currently only has an equipment sponsorship through Mezz USA.


I am honored to call him a friend and wish him goodluck in Qatar and beyond.

I know it's suppose to be innocent until proven guilty and what you wrote is simply what you heard BUT come on. If you really wanted to know if something at Grovers did happen you could have said I heard there was a problem with Hunter at Grovers anyone know for sure? And then if anyone DID know the truth they might have helped you out. But I heard a rumor he stiffed someone? No matter what some people are going to take that as he did and run with it. Suppose to be a good thread.
 
Hunter was in Hollywood Billiards, in FL, yesterday. We spoke a bit and he told me about all the traveling he's been doing lately...China, Qatar, Germany. He had just returned from working with his coach, Ralph Eckert, in Germany. Hunter is a great player, and a very friendly person.

I had the pleasure of meeting this young man a few years ago. Grady Matthews introduced him to me at the IPT King of the Hill event. I watched him play then and was impressed.

I like Jay H's suggestion that some of you should get behind some of your Young Gun and help them get on the world stage. Right now they need the experience or they will only stagnate.

Hunter is not the only one with world class potential.

Brandon Shuff, Tommy Tokoph, Austin Murphy, John Morra and even Mike Dechaine should be strutting their stuff on a bigger stage and these are only the guys that I have seen personally.

Changing the subject slightly - if you get a chance to watch the upcoming World Cup of Pool look out for a young man named Omar Shaheen representing Kuwait.
They are making their first appearance in this event and the teenage debutant is a very entertaining player.

Btw, how is Hunter??? Any decent cashes lately??? How did that trip go???

I don't know him and have yet to see him in action.... Wish him the best regardless.....:smile:
 
Hunter is in Japan playing challenge matches and touring with Thorsten for a few weeks. Then he's playing the World Mixed Doubles in China with Jennifer Beretta as his partner.

They will, if nothing else, look fabulous. :smile:
