I know that there are pages of lasik threads, but I'm so pumped about this decision, I'd just like to know where people are at currently with their lasik corrections. Can you tell me when you had it done, what has changed about you AND your game, and some things to consider or what you would have changed if you could.

I have scrimped and saved, lived an incredibly boring year, denied myself action to have save 5 grand for this. And growing up with glasses and contacts my entire life, now in my mid-twenties, I am MORE than ready. The only thing I'm afraid of is the doctors saying that I am not eligible for the procedure--I'm in the middle of my two-week break from wearing contact lenses (meaning: practicing).

Thank you AZ. You're the bee's knees!

I have never worn glasses and don't know the first thing about lasik.

Nevertheless, I wish you the best of luck and I hope the doctor doesn't blind you during the procedure.

Had it done seven years ago in Bangkok- best move I could have made- dumping the contacts after 20+ years was amazing.

Lasik

I had it done back in 2002 and there was an improvement for a couple of years. Since then my closeup vision has been getting worse every year. I am sure there has been improvements to the procedure over the years but if they offer "enhancements" at an additional charge I would get them. I didn't pay the extra for it and wish I would have.

I rarely play anymore but when I do go out its really frustrating not see the edges of balls anymore.

Good luck and let us know how it goes for you.

I think a lot of people would be interested in your personal experience.

Thanks guys! The two biggest things I'm purchasing are the application of wavefront technology and a lifetime correction disclaimer.

"Wavefront LASIK creates a highly individualized laser correction of your eye's surface, guided by precise analysis of vision errors that occur as light rays travel through your eye...

...With this technology breakthrough, we can now measure these disorders, show the patient what's going on in their eye, link that information to the laser, and actually correct higher-order aberrations that diminish contrast sensitivity. Wavefront technology enables the surgeon to improve overall vision quality better than in the past."

PLUS, my vision plan offers a 20% discount off the cost of the procedure...win.

Lasik

I wore contacts for years and could see 20/15 with them for distance. I was hesitant to get lasik because I was afraid I wouldn't see as well. But I finally had it done about five years ago. I can see 20/15 with my lasik and am very happy with the result. The only reason I can see for anyone not doing it is the cost.

I need reading glasses for up close. Not being able to see up close is an issue that occurs for most people in their forties.

Go for it.

How's everyones' game after-the-fact? It was always a problem staying down on the shot, trying to watch the completion of the shot, without my vision blurring due to the dryness of my contacts.

I haven't had it done, but am considering it now that they have greatly improved the procedure over the last almost two decades. Two guys I work with that have had it done are very happy with it still.

I had it done in my 50's

I had it done when I was in my 50's because everything was getting blurry and I was doing archery and playing pool. All it does is get you back to normal vision. Nothing helps close up vision as you get older because that has to do with your muscles not adjusting anymore. But otherwise I can do everything else very well. It seems that it should be less expensive now.

Good luck,
Jim

5,000? I did it in 2001 and it was around $2500 and I have never looked back. Nothing really changed about me from a personality standpoint. From a convenience standpoint I am glad every day to be able to wake up open my eyes and see clearly.

My game initially suffered a little bit because I tried to play too soon but after a few weeks I was playing as well as I ever did.

For about a year I had some halos and stars when driving at night - they went away.

Now 8 years later I have slightly worse vision in my right eye than my left but with both eyes open I can see sharply and often I can read signs at distances that others find incredible. I also have no problem to read small text but I will often enlarge it just to be more comfortable.

I don't regret it one bit, not at all.

Also to clarify the comment above about the money - at the time I went to to the best guy around and paid a higher price than most at the time.

I would have thought laser surgery would have gone down or stayed the same in price but my advice then as now is still to go with the best you can get and if that's 5,000 then do it because you only get one shot and you want to be absolutely certain that you are confident in who you choose.

Good luck and I hope everything goes smoothly.

Had it done in 2000 before the better machines came out. Still the best money I ever spent.

The release forms will scare the $hit out of you, but I would do it.

You will be giddy with how simple, painless, fast and effective it is amd you will wonder why you waited so long.

For those who need reading glasses, you're experiencing aging eyesight (presbyopia). At my last lasik consultation, the doctor recommended monovision for anyone over age 40. In monovision they don't correct one eye back to 20/20 vision, but back it off a little bit to compensate for natural aging so you don't need reading glasses.

If you're going to have lasik done, choose the most experienced doctor with the latest equipment and most up to date techniques. Touchups may be necessary after a few years, so don't let the doctor brush that topic off the table.

I had it done a few years ago in one eye only, and it was good at first but slowly the fixed eye regressed. It's still lots better than the other eye, but now to drive I wear glasses. It's hard to say how it's affected my pool game, seems like I've always been able to see fairly well at 8 feet or so. Also, given the importance of sight, the idea of having your eyes operated on so you can see the edges of the ball playing pool is just about ridiculous-stupid. But the hard truth seems to me to be that one's eyes keep on deteriorating. So you pay $2,800 for one eye, and then 3 years later your eye is worse, so you need to go back and do it again. That is my experience, except I'm not going back. And all that little fine print about the risks, well, there are risks. Doing it once makes since to me. Doing it every 3 or 4 years does not.

I went to have it done and didn't qualify, eyes too bad (astigmatism).

At the time, they said my only option would be contact implants. The cost was over $5000. I told them $5000 for implants, I would sooner hook my wife up with new titties. She took the lasik instead, not sure how that helped me. I will say, she can read road signs before I see the sign.

I had it done.... 7 years ago? Someone check.

I had it done in Canada at the Lasikmd.ca clinic in Montreal. They have several other locations in Canada. And, they had (and most likely always will have) the latest technology. I did it when the dollar was strong.

I paid $400 per eye. That's no misprint. Including flight, hotel, etc., I paid under $1500 for the whole trip.

I took my wife up a couple of years later. She paid $400 for one eye, and $600 for the other eye (or something like that). She needed the latest technology for the other eye!

We had our local doctor in Massachusetts do the pre and post op. There were no complications. Both of us could see at least 20/20 by day two.

My last checkup, my residual astigmatism in my right eye puts that eye about 20/25. My left eye is easily 20/15. Bot eyes open, the 20/15 line is no problem. My wife has been at a comfortable 20/20 in both eyes since her procedure.

The convenience is just too amazing. Being able to wake up in the middle of the night and find the bathroom. Being able to drop my razor in the shower and pick it up without stepping on it. Being able to jump in the pool without having to worry about what to do with my contacts or glasses. Being able to see what time it is. Never ever falling into the conundrum of having to search for my dropped contact lenses on the floor without being able to actually see them, or worse... putting my glasses on to find them but being unable to get my face close enough to the floor to see at floor level (all of you contact wearers know what I'm talking about here)!

I couldn't be happier. It's the best thing I've ever done to my body other than tattoos and masturbation.

Fred <~~~ thought I'd end it on a good note... and it's better than the tattoos

Like all the accident testing-no practice on my eyes

1. getting lasik means you'll never be in the military- only if the they do the procedure. Something about pressure- blows your eyes out !!! 2. my father had a plane with 2 optometrists ,Pilots (who wore glasses, and continue to wear glasses to this day. They said there are new procedures on the horizon- remember you have only 1 set of eyes, the risks are too great in my book. Mizerak played with contacts as well as other Pro's. Good luck, Mizerak told me it took a couple yrs,to figure the contacts out, mono vision in one eye and distance in the other. mark

I'm glad yours turn into a happy ending. For others, it may be too much personal information. :-P
