I am Retired

59 years old!!!

Attaboy! I'll join you one day. I have been saving 30% of my income since I was 24. 36 years old now and seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Heloc will be paid off in 2 years and no other debt whatsoever. Simple living is key. Paid cash for everything I've ever owned including current car, college degrees, home remodel, vacations, even two pool tables currently in my basement.

For those of you still grinding it out each day - don't forget to pay yourself first. Save often, save a lot, and use tax shelters like 401k, IRAs etc.

Cheers mates...

From work that is...forever...it's like getting out of High School today for a summer vacation that doesn't end! Just gonna play pool everyday...I'm Back...tap...tap...tap!!!

Well, it is a whole lot better than being Retarded.
Enjoy the years ahead.

Welcome to the club. Don't forget to use some of your newfound time to attend more pro events.

Until I retired in 2008, I always skipped Derby City, simply because I hated to use up vacation days in January. Since my retirement, however, I've been to all nine days of each of the last five Derby City Classics.

Hope to see you at a major pool event soon, Wedge.

I got some sage advice once as well. It is not that important how much you earn that counts it's how much you save. The person that told me that went on to say if you earn a million a year and spend the same you have zero, but if you save 10% you'll have a lot more than the other guy. It's what you save that counts!

Great advice and glad you followed through!

I did the same, well sorta. I didn't put in the max the company allowed but I did start as soon as I was eligible to participate. I never changed my deduct percentages for over 25 years. I did change the fund a few times but I did retire with a good chunk of change.

Me too....except my companies stock went into the crapper. So now I might have one years salary in it, after 24 years. Sigh.

I'll be the greeter you see at Wal Mart.

Congrats Wedge, may the remainder of your days (years) be pleasant and filled with fond memories, shared and made with friends and family both old and new.

Congrats

Congrats Wedge, I retired just over 4 years ago and absolutely love it. Lots of decisions though... Play pool, do a little work on the lathe, go hunting, go fishing, or, maybe just take the day off.

Decisions, decisions

congratulations

Congratulations. I retired last November. Sunday night is like Friday night. It is a weird feeling. Enjoy a stress free life.

Congrats Wedge.

Maybe some day, I'll get an opportunity to have an endless weekend.

Sounds like some of us in MD need to take you out to the pool rooms for some excursions.

Welcome to the club. I have been retired 9 years and love it. When I first retired it seemed there was no one around to do anything with, everyone else was working. Most of the retired people around us were "old." They stayed home, did little and were too hung up on their grand children. (We have five and love them all but we don't raise our kids' kids.)

Wound up moving from Ohio to Florida in a community for the "actively retired." There are over 2,000 retired people in our community and over 100 activities every week day. We have four Gold Crown IIIs and that is one of the reasons I moved where I live now.

Heck I ride my bike to the ball games and to the pool hall among other things. Living here is like being on summer vacation from high school with none of the hassles.

Retirement is great

Way to go. Yeah every days like Saturday, without the wait. I pulled the plug five years ago. About all I do is tour on my motorcycle and play pool. Lucky I am a much better rider than player. With a mint condition GC 4 in the basement I only have time to fish about twice a year.

It's a tough job, but somebody has to do it.

I'm sorry, Wedge, going through life mentally challenged must be, well, challenging. Even the most simplest of tasks can be daunting, can't they?
I know I once had a cousin who was...what? He said he was retired? Not retarded?
My bad. Carry on.

Congrats, I hope you have done it early enough to enjoy it. That is the paradox, people work all their lives to retire, then are too old or sick to even enjoy it.

Sigh...I will probably be in this category...sucks, but a reality nonetheless. Enjoy the retirement Wedge.
Matt

Congratulations, welcome to the LUCKY BUNCH who earned their place in the Sun. A man told me the STATS say, if you retire at 65 , you will live 8 months. If you retire at 62 you'll live 7 years. If you retire at 55, you'll die a 72.

Take care of yourself, eat well, get some exercise, have fun & you'll beat the STATS.,

I've been writing for several decades and it is a career I love.

I could retire - but I have too much fun with my job. I can't believe they pay me so much money to come into an office and play. ;)

My work schedule allows an hour or two of competition in the mornings at the Senior Center (opens at 7:00 AM) with a couple of other serious early bird seniors - then an hour every day after work on my home table, followed by with several times a week of different competitions.

I can't imagine a more perfect lifestyle. I just hope and pray my ability to stay vertical continues for many years to come.
