I can't believe people try to hurt others in the pool biz but it seems the do

Well it seems I have a way of outing people for bad decisions these days. I just came across this in another thread.
Basically what I am getting from this and what I have heard through the grapevine, Mark .C put together The Decider Match this past weekend with Earl and Shane and it was a Pay Per View. Pov Pool were working with Mark .C to produce it and they had some issues on Friday as some of us could not access although we had paid. A direct link was sent to these customers so they could get on. Probably just good customer service.

Somehow that link got into the wrong hands and someone named Marty posted it on facebook and then was also reposted by a TVMike. The link is at the bottom of this post where I saw the information.

I just want to say I think its a bad thing to do if someone has worked to put on a match and maybe make a profit or at least cover their expenses and other people go and tell people how to watch it for free. I don't think it is fair and I hope the people who worked on this didn't get end the weekend losing money.

Mark C posted in another thread he would soon look into it. I wonder if he can tell how many people watched the stream because of this theft.

Has anyone confirmed who posted it and who Marty is? Because if it turns out the way it looks, then the AZ community ought to try and help out their reputation a little. It's bad enough for someone to steal the stream, but to be so bold (and stupid) to post in Facebook???

Perhaps they breached FB's terms of use too?

The streamer has to protect against pirating.

In this case they were trying to solve a stream problem and maybe had to leave their guard down.

It is nothing new pool and the whole world that when giving a chance pirates will steal !

PPV's do have importance to the existance of live shows.

Support your favorites and bless you for doing so.

The matches were great (I would have preferred alternate break) Both players are machines on this size table and SVB showed a positional and touch game that most can only dream of. I would like to know more about what Earl was saying about the cue ball, hopefully he will elaborate at some point.

Mark and Daniel worked very hard to quickly iron out any (mostly minor) problems with the stream. Glad I bought it, would buy POV PPV again.

The thieves who stole this for free are just that, thieves, and the biggest low life thieves are those who encouraged others to steal this with them.

As I said in the other thread I am shocked! I really can't believe that someone who is also a streamer and knows how hard it is to do this kind of thing would do that. Especially when I know the person, I would have said "Especially when its a friend" but I think its pretty obvious that we are not.

TVMike lives in the Detriot area and also gets paid to stream matches and tournaments. I'm surprised he posted that since this is the business he's also in.

Just shows a surprising lack of class.

I'm glad I bought the stream for someone, offsets the robbery a little bit. :(

Marty is probably Marty Hermann, who has a reputation for being a first class tool
(and from my experience, he 100% deserves it). He's an old guy who thinks he can play,
and likes to woof and rant about how he only roots for the americans and half these pros are
playing wrong and everyone around him is an idiot who doesn't know what they're talking about, etc.

TVmike is smaller streamer who I believe shows stuff from his local room. He has a lot of matches
featuring Ronnie Wiseman so I'm guessing that's also Ronnie's home room.
Never heard anything bad about him until he posted that link.

He travels a little to some tournaments that he gets paid to stream but most of the heads up matches I've seen of his are at the blue diamond in Detroit.

I just got a phone call from someone I trust and respect and who is also a fellow AZER. He pointed out some things to me. Marty Herman also sent me an email telling me some things too.

I do not get along with Marty Herman and Marty Herman don't get along with me. However for whatever reason he was actually trying to promote the Decider event and tell people how good it was and give them the link to go and purchase the event. So based on the info I have Marty Herman did nothing wrong. The link he posted was a different link to the one that TVMike posted. Marty told me the same thing and that it was all TVmike giving the free access not him. That was also told to me by someone else I trust. So I am all about letting people know if they are wrong but if I take that stance I must also clear the name of the people who are being blamed for something they didn't do. I thank Marty for trying to help promote the stream more so given the fact we do not care for each other. He must have done it for Earl :)

I received a link from the Live Stream News Facebook group. Actually several Facebook groups had reposted and it was:

http://www.povpool.com/povpool.html

It was very vague. It just had a player window with a username and password to enter. And I guess the word on the street was any user/pass would work.

I didn't have time to watch it unfortunately. But hope to be able to watch a replay soon, someplace.

Also this was brought to the attention of Mark & Daniel on FRIDAY.

That's all I know.

Zach.

Its nice that it was brought to our attention and I am thankful for that, However in the heat of things and in the middle of running around like crazy we don't always get to see FB messages (What I got) and even so Why tell others how to do it and that any password would work? Zach, you saw the FB post from Mike telling people it was free and that the gateway wasn't secure and then a link. You saw that right? So he did actually do it. There is no way around that. I would keep your wallet close to you.

Well if he did. I cannot vouch for his actions. But I don't think that it was intentional, and yes, a normal human being would have kept their mouth shut. But this, I guess, is hard for non-thinkers.

Keep me posted..

Zach.

TV Mike has been explained. Marty is in fact Marty Herman. He runs a silly "Herman University" internet stream. He frequents many of the streams using the name Cosmo8. Previous poster was correct. He is a tool.

Those of you not familiar with Marty (Cosmo8), here's a link for your viewing pleasure.

With the exception of technical issues, which were 99% ironed out barely in time, I applaud all of those who have supported POV Pool from the very beginning of the company's launch, 2 years ago.

This event was not the first, but actually the second PPV event by POV Pool, yet this time it was not broadcast on Ustream, yet instead through an outside company which was referred to me by a fellow streamer whom I trusted then and still trust to this day.

Clearing up the drama!
For those concerned with people stealing this event, I would like to say that I was actually able to contain the worst of the situation on the last day, which was actually when we could have been harmed the most.

For those wondering what actually happened, there was an issue with the broadcast company I was working with and it came to my attention early on that this stream could very well have been accessed at no charge. This was a mistake on the 3rd party's part and it was made clear to me that I would incur no additional charges for the live stream if per-chance it became accessed by the masses for free,

This being said, there was also the additional concern that we may lose actual sales if the masses were to discover this issue. Behind the scenes, I was working diligently to contain the situation and rectify the broadcast companies mistake.

Ironically, I discovered that sales were not really harmed and that the number of sales versus the number of people actually accessing the stream were not that unbalanced. In other words, we contained it well and suffered minimal losses. If you need an actual number of people who were able to access the stream for free, I would venture to guess about a dozen people did this.

I became very nervous however, on the final day, because it was brought to my attention that TV Mike mentioned on facebook as a comment to a post of his that our gateway was not secure and that the stream was free.

Fortunately on the last day, we were able to secure the gateway anyhow and new passwords and logins were issued to those needing them.

That being said, TV Mike's statement did have the "POTENTIAL" to cause us a lot of damage.

I'm disappointed by this for the following reasons...

1. Upon discovering this TV Mike did not come to me directly with his knowledge.
2. After a short dialogue with him on Facebook he promised me that he would not tell anyone. (I came to find out later that this was NOT the case and that he had ALREADY made the comment about 'FREE'). So TV Mike basically LIED to me.
3. For TV Mike to say that Marty was promoting the link too, is a lame ass excuse for your own actions. In fact what marty was promoting was the link which we at POV Pool were all sending out. The difference is, is that Marty did not say it was FREE.

Ultimately it's my responsibility as a producer and broadcast professional to provide a solid show with good customer service. I may or may not consider using the same stream company again for pay per view, but that is a decision which is mine alone.

I have no ill-will towards other streamers and if the shoe were on the other foot, I would have kept my mouth shut about it. This includes, TV Mike, BigTruck, Inside Pool, Accu-Stats... Anyone who is trying to make a living at this ridiculously hard business of pool promotions.

I am starving and I need to eat... I may add more to this later, but there you go...

MARTY IS IN THE CLEAR with me! ! !
TV Mike - I wish you well but I think you should admit where you were wrong in your actions. Unless of course, YOU mean ill-will, then this request is obviously pointless.

Thanks All!
