Playing in a decent sized tourney this last wknd, I was playing pretty strong my first match. I ran 3 racks in a alternating break race to five and won 5-0, which must of gained the attention of the good guys. (The ones I kinda look up to) during my 2nd match 3-4 of these guys came and watched my match. Although they were talking among themselves and being completely respectful to our match I fell apart in a bad way!!!!! I play people better than me all the time and still play to my potential but why is it when they watched I was so focused on them and not my game? The harder I tried on the table the worse it got! My next match I was fine and a few rounds later got knocked out of tourney by a deserving opponent. I play LOTS of tourneys and frequently play ppl over my ability to get better but I've never experienced this type of meltdown! So what do you think?

Simple. You lost your focus. Happens to us all at one time or another.

Ive had nights like that and then I have had nights where my game has jumped under watching eyes of better players.

Shit blows man... happens to everyone.

I can say that I have learned to enjoy the front n center. Problem is, gettin there!

You can only do it by doing it. You build up a comfort level from being there. Problem is, gettin there.

Think of your first 10 tournaments. You were probably a wreck, right? You've come a good way and there's a good way more to go.

Take it to em, fukc em up and show them why you came.

Sheeeat! Wait till you have to fade the stream host talking about some crazy 4rail shot you are gonna take, right next to you, when that isn't even on your map.

Pssssshit.

I was thinking like this and they could of been talking about what to eat! Lol

Not exactly the same as losing your focus, you got stage freight, ie self-conscious. ie you "care" too much about what these people think of your game,,,

Best way to combat that is to keep doing it till it goes away.

A very normal condition for most humans, although some people thrive in the spotlight.....

I am thinking it is focus. The older I get the less I focus on anything. When I was younger I could get into the zone and be so focused that people watching the match were attempting to talk to me and I did not even know they were in the room! Nowadays I have to force myself to get to that level of concentration and my ability to maintain it has dropped.. Life goes on Oh Blah Di, Oh Blah Do! The Beatles said it best!!!!

It happens, especially if you start to question a shot selection. You just have to say to yourself, "how would I play this/how would I hit this?"

"Just play your own game" was one of the best and most helpful tips a player who used to be better than me ever gave me, he will no longer play me without a spot...but saying those words helps focus on the task at hand and also instills confidence and belief into what you're doing.

Idk, hopefully that can help you as it did for me. Good luck
