All of this is assuming you can even take your child into your local pool playing establishment without their young mind being bombarded with all kinds of "wholesome" images and language.
Most of us aren't really offended by the coarsening of our culture anymore; it's more so we are annoyed by it. Most of the crap you hear coming out of the jukeboxes at many places isn't clever, witty, deep, or worthwhile on any level. Instead it’s worthless drivel with a good beat. If it had any socially redeeming quality attached to it I probably wouldn't mind having my children hear some of this stuff and then use it as a teachable moment. Unfortunately, there's nothing to be learned from it. Instead, it just becomes more noise that their young minds have to deal with.
So, you have two choices: You can be the old fuddy-duddy and ask the room attendant if they would mind turning off the offensive music at 2:00 in the afternoon, or you can just stay home.
I just stay home and we all wonder why the game is dying.
I never said pool halls, I was talking about pool tournaments....Derby city...us open...turning stone classic. Where the professionals play.
You could take your kids to a new York Knicks basketball game and hear rap music thumping across the arena not just during warm ups but during actual game play. It's the sign off the times, so it will be in pool halls too. To think of bringing a kid to a pool hall and then expect everyone to act accordingly is unrealistic. I understand your point, but if you made the trip to a professional event, you would see a completely different atmosphere than what you are used to at the local pool hall.
Again, i took the discussion to children at professional billiards events of which I have no problem and will continue to go out and support with my children. The professionals, vendors, organizers are all great with kids and it lightens them up to see young minds interested in the sport.
