I discovered that I rally don't know sqat about pool

Never had a Diamon,I hate them
now the Gold crown I have has tight pockets too

I hate tight pockets

When I see tiny pockets I get scared[

Honestly i have the best gold crown ever made, but it is not pool that I love
It was action, now that I am old the action has dried up

$5 players are giving me lectures

Idiots that lose all their money are telling me
what I am doing wrong

worse than all this my wife and friend Potter are
telling me that it is just a phase
The wife says go to Vegas, visit Mark at griffs for the us open

stop and see Mickey and Laurire

You always get action in Vegas, remember this, remember that big win

Remember when you and Verl Horn won that big score

Remember how you

I must be in trouble or they would not be encouraging me

Imagine your wife telling you to not worry about the little losses

Just bet more

Can you imagine, what would you do if the wife said just bet more, you'll start winning
you always have played bad for cheap

I feel like a kid who fell off his horse and daddy says get back on

Trouble is it is beginning to scare me
I played practice pool so long I am thinking like a practice player

Scared to play

i guess cubs win is describing my condition too

i admire people who don't play action pool
guys who love the game and have fun

i'm just not one of them

This weekend my old friend Potter came over to test hit cues

I bought another Revo for him to try
againse another low deflection OB

anyway he hit a bunch of what i considered long hard shots with each cue commenting after each shot

Well if I hit hard inside with this cue I need to hit it fuller, after missing

I figured he was blaming the cue,s I said well ok hit it fuller, bingo he slams in about 6 in a row

Then he tries a slow spin shot and says, with the other cue you can hit that shot and proceeds to make it a few times
then back to the revo and says ,well you can not hit the spin shot with this so you have to play it like this and fires it in

Now I have been playing pool over 60 years and never heard of these things

at least never saw anybody shooting learning adapting

He said he loves studying stuff like this

No wonder i never improved if it takes study, work etc

I always figured it was just me shooting and missing indiscriminately

At my age I am not interested in study or work,so I dedicated myself to hitting no more side spin

To tell the truth i also decided that owning my own table and praticing pool was making me shoot poorly also

Now when I go play one pocket I get nervous and lose to people I used to beat before i started practicing

Another thing happened to my game with practicing,I lost my killer instinct,
hard to explain,as i am really not a good player but i used to have patience and a will to win

I came home depressed because I lost $20 playing one pocket,I wanted to quit pool forever. My wife said I should quit playing cheap,Jack also said that i never could play cheap pool

My table is for sale again

Have you tried fishing? Still a nice boat ride for people who who suck at it.

Tiny Pockets....a cheap person
Deep Pockets....big spender
No Pockets.....Brokester
Empty pockets..... busted
Low pockets.... lousy dresser.

Oh Yeah

First, I think your friend is full of it.
.

FULL OF IT, FULL OF IT. I'll have you know that I'm a personal friend of AlfieTaylor
and Billy Stroud. Alfie was a pool shark and even wrote a book about pool sharking,
Billy was also a pool shark AND made hand carved pool sticks that cost over a
hundred dollars. To say that some of their expertise rubbed off on me is quite the
understatement. So you FINALLY beat GHOST 4 out of 10 games (whoever he is)
and didn't take bih (is that some performance enhancing drug ?) BIG DEAL. I played
Minnesota Fats a game of 8 ball when he was putting on a show and got 5 BALLS
before he won, lets see you top that. I don't get to play much but I bet I can beat
you 4 games to 10. Just contact DEANOC and set it up.
jack

I feel like Walter Brennan in "The Apple Dumpling Gang" and Jack is talking
like "The Fastest Gun Alive

Next thing you know he will be wanting to go on the road.
neither one of us can drive after dark

9 foot tables are beginning to look like golf courses and now Jack decides that
the way to get me on my feet is to attract bigger action

My wife laid down the law again last night"no more cheap pool" she says"you never enjoyed cheap poool "

What kind of wife would tell her husband to jack the bet?
Do you guys
have this same problem?

I can't make a ball so I decide to sell my table again,my wife tries to prevent it,but then she never saw me play. But Jack has been around pool,he should know better

Why is he trying to encourage me to play ?or is he just ready to turn me into a stakehorse?
What kind of friend would do such a thing?

Texas caroom thinks it is a shame for us to play for action only.
I have met people like that, truth be told they are nicer guys

I would not mind having them over for dinner, meet the kids, talk to the wife,
just please don't ask me to play pool.

On the other hand most of the gamblers I have met,I would never invite over, never introduce to the wfie or family,I find them not much fun or enjoyable companions

Is this what sandbagging looks like in the internet age?

Who said you cant teach an old dog new tricks. :D

IMHO if you don’t need the money....trying to take someone else’s is about
Anything BUT a game. I could make a good guess, but everyone is their own
Person.

Action is the only reason I play pool. Without it I'd never play.

This is about my view of the game....worked at a pro shop since I was 12.....
...when I was 17, a guy I gambled with at golf got me into a pool hall and robbed me
for over a wek’s pay.....for me, all billiard games are competitive....
...and when the money is bet...the bullshit stops.

I love hitting a ball with a stick....but if you aren’t competing...it’s just a vanity.
....like boxing with 32 ounce gloves.

We have different views on pool. To me, playing for money does have its charm, but is no better or worse than any other kind of gambling activity, like cards or flipping coins or whatever. The pool is secondary to the rush from winning. But then the rush also has a tendency to wane after a while, especially when playing inferior competition or trapping people. To me, that's mostly pointless, like arm wrestling an 8 year old. A friendly wager is fun every once in a while, but it's not the be all and end all of playing. If I couldn't play without a wager, then I wouldn't play pool. It would be pointless. Better possibilities in other games. Even the stock market would be an improvement.

Playing world class competition in a tournament is a rush like no other, to me. Knowing that you're up against the very best, being stared down by audience members and the opponent...You both have the one chance (or possibly two if it's double elim) but that's it. You HAVE TO perform and can't change the odds or whatever at will. It's very primal. It's pressure that's guaranteed to get my hear pumping, and I love it. Who cares if it may be for chump change, it's completely secondary in that moment, but of course big money and prestige will add a little. Unlike beating a mechanic or a lawyer who doesn't know which way to hold the cue, for some money. Now if you're gambling against top level competition, then it may be similar, but to me it's actually not an enhancement. There is always that worry that you didn't get their best game, that they might be dumping or somehow having external factors act upon the game, also there is always the danger of cheating taking place, getting robbed or stiffed. You're forced to distance yourself a bit from the game...to watch the surroundings and situation more, instead of completely immersing yourself. To some that may be interesting, the seedy part of it, the fact that it's illegal and slightly dangerous...I'm no longer "turned on" by such things.

I just want to play friendly people, with good sportsmanship, or at least some control over their actions. I want the excitement to be generated by the game, that my win or loss depend on my performance and nothing else. I recently witnessed a guy go berserk in my local pool hall over a lost wager. I don't really find that sort of thing entertaining anymore.

I never gambled much at pool although many of my buddies would gamble on my matches while I played. I would play for a buck or two while they would make bank. I could care less when I was young, but recently I have raised the bet.

Money is not as scarce as it used to be so now when I have a chance I will play for it, so far so good. Playing with a little on the match certainly changes how I think and it will send the "happy go lucky" on its way and make me focus a bit more.

Having been on both sides of the gamble I would say that betting has its place for sure but I have played plenty hard for free.

Action is the only reason I play pool. Without it I'd never play.

Action never did anything for me. I enjoy a good informal competitive match. Also not good enough to back my pool playing with a bet. What cured me was in the 60's two guys beat me (did not pay) for a decent amount. Decided I do not need that crap.

But you can carom-kick balls to your side for funsies, without concern for consequences.

You can also get rid of a wedge real fast too.

My rule is I don't gamble with people that can't afford to do so. I don't want someone's rent, food money, child support, whatever. Those are the people that tend to get upset.

There is one guy I like to play, because it is a challenge, but I won't play him. Every time we play it ends up in a argument, and I'd rather just keep being friends, so I won't play him other than for practice.

20 years ago I didn't have the cash to play, and losing always hurt and I don't care to add to someone's stress over a game.
