Hmmmm
Reputation does count for something too ! The secondary market for cues and the better name is going to hold their value more. The "older" guys have years of experience and earned the reputation. This is part art, part science and part skills to make a cue.
I "over paid" for my $1000 orginal Schuler 9 years ago, a year before Ray passed away. Used the cue for 8 years, and sold it on Ebay for $1500. Not bad. So, yeah, I could have found a cue made just as well, and for a few less bucks. But what would the value be today if I had sold it?? Not $1500 if it was the infamous Freddie Four Fingers !! And FFF could be the next great cuemaker for all we know, and you just might have a collector on your hand. The difference is some want to know up front. Either way is fine, it just will not work for all people.
It comes down to preference. Somebody has to take the "chance" on the new guy. Somebody had to buy the first Hyundai Excel decades ago. Some guys can take a chance on a cuemaker, so be it.
Do you buy the Lexus over the Volvo, for the same price, but the Lexus will hold a huge reslale value over the Volvo ?? Personal preference.... You might save few bucks up front, but not on the back end when you trade it in.....Either way works, you save some up front, and other guy gets a lot more back at trade in time. Lot of factors involved,,,did you have the extra money up front for the Lexus, are you going to drive the Volve into the ground and NOT ever trade it in.......
Just depends on the individual I guess.....
Got my Spain 33 years ago and not doing too bad on the current value from what I paid for it...I'm sure I overpaid for it though !!
So... your saying you would like to "over" pay for the same quality!!!! More power to you sir!Enjoy your money and I'll enjoy more of mine!!
