I Don't Wanna Work

I agree I wish I had the money to quit work and play pool all day long.

I know that I am gonna get bombed for saying this, but,,,,work is easier than playing pool for a living. Been there. Done that. Got the t-shirt.
I played this guy one for 49 straight hours and after time won about$350.00. Drove across town to the house and had just gotten in bed when the doorbell rang. The cable guy was there to collect or shut the cable off. I thought to hell with it, shut it off. Besides, there was a big Doberman in the back yard where the connection was.
I woke up some hours later and the cable was shut off, and the doberman was dead. Starved to death.

You can't do both well (playing pool and work).
I work 10 hours/day from 7:30 to 17:30, from my home to the work place I make 1 hour, so I have to wake up at least at 6 AM.
My job makes me sick, it really sucks! 10 hours every day at the desk (i'm a accountant) it's an agony.
How can I play pool in this conditions??
I think that the only way to do both is to work in a pool room where are not to many clients and you can play the game.
Or to have a 4-6 hours job just to have the money to pay your bills and play pool!

Was watching the IPT show that I had tape on my dvr. They interviewed Corey. He said if he won he would open a PH. He said he has everything he wants or needs. He gets to play pool, plays golf everyday and is very happy. He said he doesn't have much money but has enough to do what he wants.

Nice to be young with talent.

"Young" being the operative word here. Wait until he is 30-35 still living a bare existence and wanting a family, then one day 60 wondering how he is going to support himself in retirement, I heard that the pool players association's pension plan was too good (oh, that's right there is no association). Hell, they don't even have an "old pool player's" home like sailors do.

IIRC, it has been posted here that Corey doesn't own his own home. That speaks volumes about the outlook for anyone thinking about pool playing as a career. Anybody think their pool acumen approaches his?

From my fuzzy past I can recall too many instances where I was fired from jobs because I was found at a poolroom instead of where I was suppose to be. I was smack in the middle of a set once and my exboss walked right into Mother's and fired me on the spot. Geez...talk about hard to focus the rest of that set. Probably the only time that guy ever set foot into a poolroom. Lesson learned...park around back.;)
Now I shake off the sawdust & go whenever I please!:D :D :D

I hear ya there...I like being able to get up start the coffee and go to the basement and start work...if I can't sleep I get up and do a little work....Nothing like working for yourself....soon for me anyways...LOLz

I worked very hard for 12 years and now I don't have to! If you want to play pool all day, start sacrificing now and sooner or later you won't have to work any more. I'm 46 and do anything I want every day, including pool. OR you can play the lottery. lol

That's exactly my case, too, BillyKoda. I "retired" 20 years ago when I was 33 and haven't looked back at my "good" job that everyone said I was crazy to quit. I figured I only had one life to live and analyzed exactly what it was that I really wanted and went for it. Life's not perfect, but what is?

My work week has flip-flopped: two days work, five days free. I don't choose to play pool all day, everyday, but I could if I wanted to. Here it is 9:15 and I'm still in my robe drinking coffee playing on the internet.;)

If you don't mind me asking, what do you do for income, Billy?

I want to play pool instead. Preferrably winning $ the whole time

And who, pray tell, will you be playing and winning $ from every day? The people with $ are at work during the day and the people who just play pool every day usually don't have any $.

Just a thought...

Alas the holy grail, hmm I've been fighting to find a solution to this for the past 10 years. When I worked full time I missed pool and wonder how well I could compete, when I took a year off and tried pool for a year I missed my plazma tv, motorbike, apartment etc. (not to mention it cost a fortune!)

So how do you do both if you don't have the cash to buy an apartment and travel the world playing pool. Well I have a plan but whether it worls or not is another thing. Funnily enough I got approved for a mortgage the day the IPT draw was made so maybe it was a sign!

Step1: But a large property that can be converted into two properties, rent one (hopefully covering most the mortgage) and turn the other into your own pvt pool hall/home.

Step2a: Either go contracting and play pool in between contracts or find an employer that will allow you to work part or 3/4 time so you can fund your travels to play around the world.

step2b: Alternatively setup a business that can be run from a laptop no matter the location.

Hope this helps mate ;)

That may be true, however, I am the first one in.

As long as you keep your geyser shut, Riley, I should be just fine...

Hey I don't have a geyser, if I did I certainly wouldnt be working, I'd be home all day lol

Simple suggestions to an early retirement:

Get a decent education and a job you enjoy
Invest don't save
Live within your means
Turn golf pro not pool
Invest early and regularly
Marry well or don't
Raise smart and/or athletic kids ( scholarships could save you
mega $100K's )
Be happy!

I'd have to be one of the young guys this is directed at, and I assure you I've already taken many of the steps you listed above! Except the golfing part.

I think you just have to love playing pool more than anything else. I quit my job about two and half years ago, and started playing pool about twelve or more hours everyday, seven days a week. Dont have near as much money or all the nice things alot of people have, but its the only way I am going to get where I want to be in pool. I am also fairly young so I dont have alot of responsability or a wife and kids. I guess it depends on how much you want to do something. Anything is possible.
