I got $1300 to spend on a cue...

Guys, I'm looking at a schon right now, but I want to ask if that's my best choice for this amount of $$$... What's my best option... ? I will be pairing it with a 314'2 shaft

I don't know how often you've spent over $1K on a pool cue...I've done it a few times. I bought a Schon for about $1,400 (STL 17), still have it, love it...when I went custom, I spent my $1K plus on a cue I designed from a maker I'd looked into...I went to their shop (Carolina Custom), tried every variation of cue they make and went over my desired specs in great detail, designed it myself. It's now my player and probably will be for many, many years to come.

FWIW, my advice is to either go with the Schon (you really can't go wrong) or do some research on a custom maker, visit their shop or try some of them out in a pool room/tournament. There's a HUGE variation between makers and even their cues can vary from cue to cue. If you research it and design it yourself, you'll be MUCH more proud of it than buying a second hand custom made for someone else.
 
I have this 1 of 1 special order Schon from the early 2000's if you're interested. Ivory in the points with "Chicago rings" on the forearm and the butt. 19.4 oz, dead straight, with a fresh finish and fresh linen wrap (back w/ white spec) straight from Schon. There are a few in your range that come with his
low deflection shaft which gives the 314 the 7 ball.

Couple of more . . .

There's so much available in that price range . . . and you'll be getting a deal at that because the market is so depressed for stuff over $600 or so.

I'd definitely hit a Steve Lomax and an Andy Gilbert before you plunk down the cheese.

i agree. there is nothing like actually "making" your own cue.
 
No way would I purchase the Schon. I wouldnt want to show up to a tournament and know I spent over 1k on a cue and see someone else with the exact same cue. If I'm going to spend that kind of money on a cue I want it to be one of a kind.
