Played Gene Albrecht last night at Jimmy's Pro Billiards (I love this room, btw--- fun spot).
When I first got there, he was busy giving a lesson so I got myself a table and started practicing a little 14.1 by myself. I hit balls for about an hour and I honestly felt like I'd never-ever miss. I think I missed twice in that hour.
So, we started off playing a little 9-ball and it went back and forth the first 3 or 4 games. Next thing I know, I get hit with a big pack (forget how many) until I finally got to jump at a ball. After hitting the jump, and losing the game... I had an opportunity to stick him behind another ball and I dogged it (and he ran out). I started to laugh because it's been a long time since I played 9-ball and I forgot what it was like to have someone crush your nuts in so bad-- you can't do a little stun-safe. Well, screw 9-ball... maybe it's the game... we'll switch it up to a little....
8-ball. That way, it's like mini-14.1--- something a little closer to my heart. He flips the coin and I call tails (because "heads" SUCKS). The coin lands...heads. I rack'm. Race to 5 before we call it the night. 4-pack. Missed tough shot... the end.
Geno looks like a card-carrying AARP member and I was the one wearing Depends. Imaging that. I was gonna play MY game--- a little 14.1--- until he said he recently played a high-profile pro and crushed him in with a few 90-ball runs and even missed on purpose to help him get going. My nuts couldn't take that kind of abuse so that's-that.
While I was there, I got a quick lesson and I learned a little somethin'-somethin' that I can't wait to try out. Thanks Geno for the information.
If you get the chance to meet Geno - do so --- he's a great guy!
My nuts and I are at the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport waiting to fly home. We're gonna pump-up a bit before trying that again.
