I Got Screwed!!!! Zims Rack --please read-- Michael Zimmerman

And secondly there all these posts about how kids don't start playing pool and why its dying, well sorry but a lot of the replies that were left is an example of why they don't. I ask a question because I felt I got the rules switched around on me, and 20 people see this as an opportunity to have fun and start bashing me. Great way to promote the sport guys!!! Makes me think twice before I sign back into here again. So maybe I'm not the one being immature, maybe its just some of you guys........

I sympathize with you over experiencing an inconsistency in tournament/league play (ie: the same thing being called two different ways), and you do have a right to be upset about it. That being said, similar things have probably happened to almost everybody who posts on AZ, and there is a right way and a wrong way to handle these types of situations. I understand why you may not have wanted to make a big stink about it during the competition, but pulling aside an official at that time to get a clear ruling would have been the proper thing to do. However, you're well within your rights to come to AZ and make a post about the issue, and perhaps even vent a little.

Where you went wrong, and this is the ONLY reason you're receiving flack from AZ'ers, is by making a post titled "I Got Screwed" and calling out Zims Rack publicly over an issue you didn't fully understand. You say you came on here and asked a question, but that's not exactly true. You came on here and made an allegation. That's ok too, but you'd better be 100% sure about it before you do that sort of thing publicly. Otherwise it will be viewed as being very disrespectful... because it is very disrespectful.

If your post had been titled something like "What's the Correct Ruling", as it should have been, I can assure you that you would have received a speedy and respectful answer to your question.

You won't receive any more respect on AZ than you show to others.

I take it bars in IL don't mind minors playing in there establishment? I tried a few times to get into bar tournaments before i was 21 in Oregon i couldn't even know 90 percent of the guys in the tournament and the people running it. And up here in Alaska its not going to happen either.

I'd take a few days off if I were you.... and then quit.

Also, make sure that in the few days that you do take off and don't play pool, you also do not think about pool, do not read about pool, do not talk to your friends about pool, do not touch or look at your pool stick, do not drive by or go to the local bar where you play pool. Then do as SpiderWebComm suggests - quit.

and to those that ask - you can't smoke in a bar in Illinois, but you can bring your children or your dog. You can have strippers fully naked, you can drink for 24 hours straight, but again you cannot smoke.

So tonight I entered a double-elimination pool tournament at the local bar and maybe 15 people showed up to play. I lost my very first game and got dropped down into the losers bracket. I eventually won a bunch of consecutive games and worked my way into the championship (not a f*&%$#! clue how I did but w/e). My opponent was at the table and He tried to cut a ball into the side but it didn't make it there. He did make contact with his ball but the ONLY ball that hit the rail was the cue ball. I walked to the table ready to pick the ball up and I said "Ball in hand right.." just to be on the safe side. If I had ball in hand I would have had to make one simple shot that set itself up on the eight. My opponent said that since the cue ball hit the rail it was a legal shot. I argued for probably two minutes and the only person that agreed with him was the bartender who was running the tournament.

They were playing "league" rules which I was aware of and when I argued it he said it was a mix of APA rules and their own league rules. IMO this is GAY. There should be a set copy of rules. Even the tournament before this I was playing the exact same guy and it came up and it went the other way. The league they play though is ran by Michael Zimmerman and is called Zims Rack. Michael does have an account on here that goes by the name of Zims Rack, but idk if he gets on anymore. Is this how its usually played in your leagues anyone?:confused::mad::confused::confused:
His shot was legal.

A) I've met Mike Zimmerman and he is a good guy.

B) This is why I would never want to run a league.

C) If you want to have any credibility on this website, apologize for calling out Mike and claiming you got screwed simply because you didn't know the rules.

Given a choice of which one to ban from that list I would ban the smokers, but that's just me. I know that's not a popular view among pool room owners.

Somebody probably already said this but I'm not going to read the whole thread.
If the cue ball hit a rail AFTER striking the object ball, that is sufficient. If it only struck the rail BEFORE striking the object ball and not after then it is a foul.

...
Secondly, good job for playing pool 20 hours a week at age 16, many young guys are pursuing far less productive activities.
...

Like studying? I think before congratulating him on 20 hours of pool a week, we should know how he is doing in school. Just a thought.

I guess I'm the only one that read his post differently. I read "I got screwed" , which he did. He got screwed by a player that cheated him. That changed the rules on him to best serve himself. When the TD, who also was the bartender, was consulted on the shot, he was the only one that said it was a good shot. That tells me that that league plays by some different rules than normal. If everyone else that was there thought it was bad. Now, we all know that in reality, by any real rules, it was a legal shot.

The OP wasn't asking if it was normally a legal shot, but wanted to consult M.Z. about it. It's his league, and he surely would know the rules to it. My guess is that he wasn't there that night, so he posted here to find out what the ruling is supposed to be. No matter what the ruling is, the kid did get screwed by having two different rulings on the same type of shot. He just wanted M.Z.'s input to clarify the ruling for the future.
He didn't get screwed. The other guy got screwed.

And the reason I posted this is because I got called in a previous match against this exact same guy ( Who wasn't Mike zimmerman by the way) and I ended up getting the foul called because my object ball didnt hit the rail after contact
Bwahahahaah. Sounds like you got hustled! It pays to know the rules before you play...

Either way, there is NO reason to bash Mike. You should be getting red rep out the ying yang for accusing Mike of something shady...

Boy this kid just took a beating on this thred. This reminds me of that kid that got beat up in high school by a girl. Going to be a little akward walking around in you shoes for a while.

Travis.

A few questions for you:
1) Where were you at when this happened?
2) Who was running the tournament?
3) Who was your opponents that screwed you?

Zim's Rack League is no where close to the APA when it comes to rules, format and fees! We are a very unique league and are proud of it.

No offense was taken and no hard feelings on my end, you were just unaware of the rules (whichever they were) and it sounds like a few other people are not aware either.

I'm an open book on AZB and have very few, if any, enemies! Ask me anything!

Thanks for the plug for my league!! haha!!

Zim

Hopefully this young man will take what has been said as constructive criticism. In my opinion this is a good learning opportunity about the use of "tact" and how to be tactful, not accusatory when inquiring about something. ;)

As for someone calling a foul on the young man at a previous tournament/match, I agree with the person that says "you got hustled". Remember, it is in your best interest to educate yourself on the rules. Know them or someone that does will take advantage of your lack of knowledge.

For the record, Michael what rules do you recognize in your league?

We use a modified BCA set of rules! Travis, you should get on one of our league teams!

So tell us about your league Mike

Im not gunna say where the tournament was at because I don't want any more problems too arise. My opponent told me that Zim's Rack leagues were a modified set of APA rules, so I gues we were all wrong. As for joining the league I thought about it but with sports and school it would be kind of hard to work around everything. If you really want to know where it was at though Michael, ill PM you.

Sorry, but your opponent was right, there was no foul.
