Everyone sems to think that pool fans are not his intended audience.

If serious pool fans are not his audience then why no jump sticks? Then why no breaking from the side, no shot clock? Why tight pockets? Why old timers? No one but the serious pool fans cares about these things or knows those guys.

These things are certainly not going to make the game more interesting or exciting. In fact each new 'rule' seems to go out of its way to make the game less exciting for the newbie. Go figure- I can't.

That has nothing to do with his intended audience, that has to do with the players. That's all for the players, not for the audience, why in the hell would the majority of people watching care about those things.

Besides, we're going by what KT has stated as to his intended audience not conjecture based on what we are seeing. Everything that I've heard about just falls into place with what KT has stated is his intended audience.

Well then what he has done for the players makes it less likely he will reach his intended audience.

My take as one who was there.

The first show did not capture the excitement and the drama that was in the air at the event.

Walking down the hallway to the entrance the visitor was greeted with billiard memorabilia as decorations. There was a red carpet in the foyer with a gaggle of papparazzi on one side. Almost everyone was well dressed. There were stars mingling around.

In the arena the table was centered on a raised stage. The atmosphere was definitely charged. Sigel and Jones were introduced with a lot of pomp.

The match itself was anti-climatic but still a lot of fun. Once Sigel got in gear he played really well.

So, the TV show really did the actual event quite a disservice. I am going to guess that the show suffered a lot from the time constraints they were put under by FSN. It suffered more from the overhyping of the comparison of 9 Ball, Pro-Rules, conditions. In a way I suppose that we are sort of the QC people for this since we are going to be the harshest critics.

I am sure that the broadcasts will get better. I hope Kevin stays in the background more and lets the commentators do their job.

And I hope that we get to see every shot of the match. The cutting away and the editing on the actual play was HORRIBLE. I did like the break shot comparison, that was cool. I liked the idea of the player bios but thought that they were choppy and overeffected. The zooming and panning were disorienting and really took away from the little bit of content that was there.

Lastly, I am surprised that no one caught it, or maybe someone did and I missed it; that during the match there were ads for Mike Sigel's instructional videos that advertised him as a 9 time world champion and just at the conclusion of the match the same ad had Mike advertised as a 10 time world champion. Talk about instant results. :-)

If this match is shown 300 times as it aired on FSN then it will get real old, real quick. I believe that the IPT tournaments will provide plenty of new and fresh content for us to see. This match was and is trying make the best of what ended up being a rather lopsided affair. I certainly believe that with different editing it can be much more dramatic and less annoying. Hopefully some of you will get to see it as I saw it, which was a new era for professional pool.

I can just imagine what Orlando is going to feel like. We're almost a week away, and I for one am extremely excited.

Hi SJM-You concede that 'we' are not and shouldnt be the target market, yet you remain confident that the IPT will deliver a superior TV product. To who?

I stated that the serious, accomplished player is not the target audience. By that, I'm really referring tto those that play at "B" level and above, who will make up most of those who'd prefer a highly technical approach to the commentary with the emphasis on the nuances of the play.

I believe Trudeau will deliver a superior TV product from the standpoint of the occasional players who play the game socially and the non-players looking for novelty value, who I suspect would be more concerned with the personalities of the players, the emotions of both the players and fans, and the hype surrounding the event, than the quality and details of the pool.

I believe Trudeau will, through heavy investment in his productions, find a way to make his events look important to the casual observer by creating the kind of hype that attracts them.

Wishful thinking? Maybe, but I remain optimistic.

B player I see-well that leaves me out of the we- i thought you meant to incluce 'pool enthusiasts'.

So basically you remain optimistic that KT will produce a product that you wont like. That's an interesting point of view if i got it right, but you're an interesting guy. Thanks

Close to the truth, but not quite right, KT will produce a pool product not designed for me, So I'll need to tune out the hype so that I can focus on the pool alone. As long as I can do that, I'll probably get to enjoy some great pool.

SJM, your answers and feelings on any particular issue don't need to be "justified" on this or any other board.

You, unlike most, know a quality pool product when you see it even if this doesn't fit that standard yet. You have sacrificed a substantial part of your life for the betterment of the sport of pool and its top players (specifically women). You have EARNED the right to remain optomistic, sheesh!!!

If it is me you are referring to, I was merely asking a friend to clarify a complex and pretty unique but valid view. I had no handle on it at all.

I resent your position that "most" of us would not recognize a quality pool product. You are insulting a lot of people here.

Thanks for your kind words, RG. If I've been good to pool, it has been good to me, too.

Still, I believe we're all equals on the forum, and by considering everybody's views here, my horizons have always been broadenend. The breadth of knowledge and experience of the members of AZB is simply amamzing, and the well-judged comments and observations I read here have often led me to either fine-tune, revise, or reconsider my views on many subjects.

Obviously, Nostroke, as a very ardent fan and supporter of pro pool, you are immensely qualified to pass judgment on a pro pool product. So, as you suggest, are countless others on this truly remarkable forum.

Isn't it amazing that so many so called "knowledgeable" pool people can't seem to understand that?

KT is doing something that no one has done before. He managed to get 43 of some of the best, present or past, pool players together to put on a performance. And he is paying them to perform. And the better they perform the better they get paid. Quite an incentive.

Hell, for all we know, KT is just throwing one hell of a party for himself and is getting a kick out of being able to watch and rub elbos with all the players.

Amazing what one can do with a lot of money.

Maybe this is all part of his fantasy. And it is all staged just for his own pleasure.

I really don't care what the reason is. All I know is that I will be there and I am prepared to see some really great people playing some really great matches.

There is a full DVD available of every game of that match for all those that wants more content than the TV version.
