It's true. I hate them so much that I bought one to go along side my 9' diamond pro. I was complaining recently that I just did not have the feel of a valley table in those dive bars. Then, as if an angel descended upon me to guide my path to the craigslist ads, I saw one listed for a mere $100 bucks and snapped it up right away. It is truely a vintage treasure, with a manufacturing vintage circa 1975. It came with a mismatched ball set (which I intend on collecting all 15 of the originals), that torturously slow felt, and plenty of stains (which I can only hope are from beer spills!).

As it turns out, I really like playing 8 ball on a bar box. In fact, 8 ball on a bar box is about the only way I really enjoy playing that game. We set up the table, tightened the rails, and then played for about three hours. Life is grand...

Absolutely. To date, I have found the following items either on craigslist, ebay, or at a garage sale: 9' diamond pro table with dymondwood rails, 7' valley table, tournament challenger ping pong table, 5 disc changer + sony reciever + JBL speakers (that truly rock the man cave, by the way), and more. Not too bad a collection for a man on a budget.
 
I find goood brand name tables on craigslist for under 500 bucks all the time.

I like valley tables with fast cloth. Fortunately most bars in my area put simonis or 3030 championship on there tables.

8 ball seems to be a much more challenging game on barboxs. The balls cluster and defense comes more into play.
 
The only thing I find challenging about playing on a Valley bar box is keeping my pants pockets from ripping! Those chrome corner plates are the worst possible design. Threw away two pairs of pants this past year with torn pockets:shocked2:. Anyone else have this problem?

On a separate note, any word on Will Paye?

Hi Lyn;

I have had valley pocket corners tear my pants pockets, too, and Olhausen's have got me, as well. In fact, the Olhausen even removed one of my lower shirt buttons, once. Definitely a bad design.

I hate playing anything on them. Everyone is a champion on them. Any race 7 and under is a coin toss. I only play on them on my league night when I have to. I prefer the 9 foot gc3s and diamonds of course.
 
I also found my 7 foot Global bar box on Craigslist. Paid $150 and put new rubber and Simonis 860 Tournament Blue on it. Plays grand. I feel like a pro when I play on it compared to the 9 foot Gandy I usually play on. Also found a couple of cheap Spectator Chairs on Craigslist too. It's a great tool for shopping.

8 Ball on a Bar Box is one of the most strategic games there is, and I think Straight Pool and One Hole are the perfect training games. I never play 8 Ball on a 9 ft table, but I can play a ball over my speed on a 7 fter. Valleys make it all about defense coz pocketing balls is child's play.

Bar Box 8-Ball is a challenging game, no question. I've seen so many pro players get pounded playing it on bar boxes.

Yeah, the table is pretty funny. I play on keeping that slow A$$ cloth just to keep the dive bar experience going. I will still play mostly on the Diamond, but that bb is pretty fun stuff for a change of pace.

About Billy Paye, he is currently undergoing chemo but is still battling. I guess that's about as good as one can hope for right now. I here the chemo is extracting a heavy toll on him physically, but that is the nature of the treatment. Not easy for anyone to have to deal with. We all wish him well.
 
i stopped in shooters this week during the afternoon just to see what was going on and ended up watching johney mora playing 9 ball by himself on a bar box. Soft hits but he was putting some serious inside/outside spin for great shape.

Not realizing this inquiry was to do with a serious health issue, I wish to extend my apologies to his friends here, in addition to my prayers for his recovery.
