It's true.  I hate them so much that I bought one to go along side my 9' diamond pro.  I was complaining recently that I just did not have the feel of a valley table in those dive bars.  Then, as if an angel descended upon me to guide my path to the craigslist ads, I saw one listed for a mere $100 bucks and snapped it up right away.  It is truely a vintage treasure, with a manufacturing vintage circa 1975.  It came with a mismatched ball set (which I intend on collecting all 15 of the originals), that torturously slow felt, and plenty of stains (which I can only hope are from beer spills!).  
As it turns out, I really like playing 8 ball on a bar box. In fact, 8 ball on a bar box is about the only way I really enjoy playing that game. We set up the table, tightened the rails, and then played for about three hours. Life is grand...
