I have a problem...

...I'm getting out the military in a week and a half 2 weeks at the most. I have 2 job offers to go program as a contractor while I go to school. So I'm supposed to be doing my resume tonight. But all I can think about is going to the pool hall right now. I have gas and I don't need money cus I play for free.

1+1 = pool

The girl that was taking up time in my life is now gone so I have nothing holding me back mentally (or physically)from going. Is it wrong that there is nothing, save family, that is more important to me than our beloved game? You see, I know I must get this done, but I would rather come home tomorrow at 2am and do the resume without sleep before work than not go to Fast Eddie's at all. Because my logic is this:

3 * 6/2 ^2 * 45 = pool

So tell me poolaholics... is this a bad trend I'm getting into or should this urge be nurtured into something great?

You are young and being just out of the Military you need a break in life..you have to think and plan for your long term future but you should have fun too..enjoy life but think about a career..Good luck and keep us posted.:)

I'm currently tearing my (imaginary) hair out waiting for Wednesday night to get here so I can go play.

Zom I retired from the Army in 2003, and I wanted to combine my love for pool with my lively hood for the remainder of my days. I have always loved all aspects of pool from cues to the woofing at the pool table. It became a part of me at a very young age and to some extent it has been a influencing fact in my life to date.

Now I am not an A-player but I am also not a short stop and while I love to play, I can also be content just watching some good action. So when I retired I decided that the only way I could become a part of the world of pool was to take the plunge and open my own room in 2004. I did some research, and I found a way to make my room DIFFERENT than the other rooms in my STATE, not just in the local area. The formula I used for my success, was combining, retail sales, complete cue repair, table rental, and custom cue building all at the same location while my customers watch.

Zom, the only way to find out if you can succeed, is to jump. Do not allow others to influence you in any way. People, for some reason that you may consider friends may try to hold you back, this happened to me, in fact the only person who believed I could do it was my wife. To date my business has grown and grown, while other rooms around me are having hard times.

All I can say Zom, is live your dreams what ever they are, and never be afraid to take the plunge, no matter what you choose to do in life.

By the way, go play pool you only live once:D :D :D ;)

Become something great and play pool on the side as a hobby. After you have already established yourself then start taking pool more seriously. Good luck!

You know what a resume looks like when you throw it together in one night? ...a resume that you threw together in one night.

My advice: don't be a dumbass; work on your resume.
 
Thanks for serving our country and nice to hear that you are getting out.

Read the book "Hustler Days" by R. A. Dyer. It is about the lives of Minnesota Fats, Wimpy Lassiter, Jersey Red and a few other pool players. After reading it you should have your answer about what you want to do. It all depends on the type of life you want to live. Another good book to read is "Road Player" by Danny Diliberto. It takes a special type of person to live off of playing pool.

Good luck on what ever course you choose.
 
Say Inzombiac, If you're so fascinated by billiards, why don't you:

a) get into a pool table repairman business
b) get into a cue making/cue repair business
c) go around the world and look for different forms of games (and write an elaborated jornal about it
d) or just consider going pro (and maintaining a decent job on the side)


And this is coming from a Texan that's 500 mi south from ya, pal!

BTW, played @ Fast Eddies Monday night and I played a good pool player pal of mine ;) (I think I mentioned to you about him) some 9-balled banks and I almost beat him but he just came around and swatted me :( . But it was a great time never-the-less :D .

haha leave it to Seymore to tell me straight up. I appreciate the honesty man, and I hear ya loud and clear. I'm working on it as we speak actually.

But to all you folks, who thought I was gonna turn it in after one night of work, what I'm working on is merely a draft that I'm gonna get help with from a contractor friend of mine who works for the company and knows what they look for. I wouldn't turn it in half-assed like that, lol. Pool just makes me procrastinate severely, but handing this company a pile of crap on paper would be monumentally dumb on my part.

Look, without kids or a wife, who's stopping you. And to be honest, if you have the addiction like I think you have, no matter what we say, you're going to the pool room anyway. That's how you know you got it bad.
