:D I took a cue in on trade tonight and the shaft stinks . It smells kinda like mildew or something . The case he had it in had no smell at all nor did any of the cues in it. This is very odd to me as i have never heard of it before. Any idea's on what can be done to this shaft or is it just junk ?

Thanks ....... Larry

had that problem with a bamboo flyrod and warm water with bleach (1 to 1/4) worked to remove it and the smell. i wouldn't know what it would do to untreated maple though.

I say a cue like that once, it belonged to an old Fisherman who had died. His son brought the cue in to have it re-tipped, the dam thing was stained and had a funny smell. Thank god, I always where gloves when working on cues, because I found out the guy worked as a Guide for other Fisherman. People apparently always found the fish, it turns out that he was a Master Baiter!!!!!!!!!!:D

Try steaming it as if you were trying to remove dents.
Then let it sit outside in some fresh air.

If that doesn't work take it to a bar and then it will smell like old nasty stale cigarette smoke.

That's What I'm Known For.... My THINKING

The solution to stinky shaft is easy to cure.
Simply scotch tape some mothballs to the shaft every 2"-3" and VIOLA !

( I used this solution on my stinky grandmother and it worked....... we didn't even know she'd passed away until two years later ) :)

try lemon oil

To remove really foul odor in the aire, you boil realemon in water and the steam will neutralize the odors throughout the house. I know this works because my wife fried carp in my house after I repeatedly told her that carp is crap mispelled. It made it the house unbearable and smell like dirty socks. 20 minutes of realemon steam vapor and the odor was gone completely for good.

You might try a lemon based oil on the shaft. Like a lemon wood polish. I don't see how that could hurt it in the long run or make it move like water would.

ps.. if that doesn't work ... be more careful where you put your shaft and it won't get stinky.
