Some people say drinking dulls your pub game skills. I say BS. Be it Pocket Billiards or Darts, I always play better with a few pints in me gut. It just knocks the "edge" off.

Two time Darts World Champion Jocky Wilson didn't play worth a crap unless he was two sheets to the wind.

Ralph Greenleaf comes to mind...there must be many other good pool players that play their best after a 4 or 5 drinks?

Alcoholics do everything better when they're drunk... It's the only way they can function.

Here's a hypothetical scenario: Two guys of roughly comparable speed match up, one guy is drunk, the other guy is nursing a coffee.

I like coffee guy to win 8 out of 10 sets.

so for you a guy who might drink 4 beers on his weekend poolevening is an alcoholic.

some people have trouble controlling the stress in a point or money game. one or two beers (or whatever) calm you down without taking you out of your game.

shame on all these drinkers and alcoholics who think they deservce a pint after a workingweek!!!

I'm not talking about that guy, I'm talking about Pangit and Ralph Greenleaf.

Those people should learn to control their stress without relying on a crutch to numb their brains.

I can't believe someone is actually arguing that this game that requires every bit of your concentration is actually easier when you're firing on three cylinders.

I feel the same way before I get on the autobahn....

Without getting too preachy, I will say this...

It's nice to be able to shoot well regardless of whether there's a beer special, or how much I had, or if it's my favorite kind of drink, or whatever.

It's also nice at the end of the night to get a piece of paper that says I owe five dollars, or ten, or whatever, while my buddies are all making faces because their slips of paper say $50 or even $100.

If you need a drink in you the bet than your a fish.

Nothing wrong with playing after a few drinks, but to say "i need it to take the edge off" is sad. Your no real player if you feel this way.

On the flip side of the coin, if you are a functioning alchy, which a lot of strong players back in the day were, then obviously they need a buzz to play.

Hmm... something's different this time. Did you have a few pints when composing this post? Or are you an imposter, that broke into Pangit's account on AZB?

Here, let me fix -- I'll help you:

Some people say drinking dull's your pub game skill's. I say BS. Be it Pocket Billiard's or Dart's, I alway's play better with a few pint's in me gut. It just knock's the "edge" off.

Two time Dart's World Champion Jocky Wilson didn't play worth a crap unless he was two sheet's to the wind.

Ralph Greenleaf come's to mind...there must be many other good pool player's that play their best after a 4 or 5 drink's?

Ah, that's much better -- more along the lines of the Pangit we know.

Go away you imposter!

:p :D

Coffee makes me jittery and I don't care for pop much. That leaves either beer or water, and water makes me pee my pants and thats embarrassing.

I know beer contains water but it also contains other good things that are healthy for you, like Barley.

Beer contains Niacin. Good stuff. I like to drink seltzer water of any kind Perrier, club soda, pair it with a lime or lemon and I'm set for the night.
Good stuff, I can go through pitcher easy and I can get free at most places. When my match starts I get a couple of beers and I'm all set
