Not sure "patchwork" is the right term, but this Elite production cue is basically what I'm talking about.....

I think bluegrass cues sometimes come with a checkerboard pattern, much smaller squares though. Those I can take.

But it's a smart way to use up scrap wood.
Specifically, Tiger's X2 series. I visited the Tiger shop while in LA a few weeks ago and they're fantastic US made cues.
