I don't expect any table to play perfect but I do have an "acceptable" table in mind whenever I play.
I was playing on some Diamond tables and I could not make the object ball and go 3 rails for shape on half the pockets on the tables.
I asked in a thread what could be wrong and most people told me it was me.
I then went to the table mechanics section and asked and Glen gave me a way to test the tables. put 4 balls frozen together on the rail and hit them hard , if the pocket accepts the shot , it's the player , if it doesn't , the pocket is wrong.
Half the pockets I checked failed.
It is also nearly impossible to draw the ball back to the end on the same shot.
Thanks Glen for the answer to how to decide if it was me or the equipment.

i guess i'm missing something... how does freezing 4 balls to the rail relate to getting 3-rail shapes?

Am wondering the same?????

I know that freezing 4 balls along a rail is a way to check running a ball along a rail past a side pocket.

Also missing the thing about the draw shot.

If it is referring to both CB and OB being frozen to the rail it is an impossible to draw the CB back along the rail and still remain frozen there by using straight draw. This doesn't have anything to do with rail alignment, it is just impossible because the rail induces spin on the CB that will throw it away from the rail. There are some tapes that show how to "achieve" this shot but it has nothing to do with rail alignment.

I think he is referring to how hard he must hit the ball. The pocket being so tight or wrong cut will not take balls struck with pace

If you freeze the 4 balls on the rail and hit them hard there is no transferred english on the ball that is closest to the pocket and you can't undercut or overcut slightly and miss.
If it goes in, the pocket is aligned properly , if it doesnt the facing or something with the pocket is incorrect, which means you cannot make the shot and play position at the other end of the table.
Also, No the cueball is not frozen to the rail, if you can't go 3 rails around because the pocket will not accept the shot no matter how good you hit it then your next option is to draw straight back .
The problem is the pocket will not accept that shot either.

some y'all might be missing the point . . . .

The thread isn't really about the shot . . . . . its about thanking Glen for taking the time to diagnose the problem . . . .

THANX , GLEN !! for everything you do !!

hey , u12armresl , u payin attention ??

I'm paying attention that you have issues, and that you are a racist.
I wonder if you go into your local pool hall with those racist comments of yours.

Anything else you want me to pay attention to?
