I lost 2 friends

I was playing one pocket with Joe, who I have gone to
DCC with the last 2 years. I was beating him, which I
rarely do anymore.
Another good friend, Eddie, who enjoys messing with me,
is watching the game.
I have a long difficult shot. As I start to hit the ball, Eddie yells
something. I stop and ask Eddie why he's always doing something
like that. A few shots later Eddie yells out what a great job
he thinks Bush is doing. Joe agrees and they start going on
about Bush's greatness being secure.
Both were well aware of how I feel. I start arguing with them
and suddenly I can't make a ball.
I accuse Eddie of doing this deliberately to mess with me.
After all, why bring this topic, a sore point with me, up in
the middle of the game? I call Eddie an a**hole. Joe quits,
says he'll never play with me again.
Both are portraying me as the sorehead and both friendships
appear lost.
Was I wrong? My wife & oldest son feel that they were baiting me.

You got to be joking! I don't think I have ever lost a friend due to politics on a national level. Local, yes. National, never. I think you need to get new friends anyway.

You should have used bottom-left and gone three rails.

This post was not about politics. It was about deliberately
baiting a friend while he was trying to play serious pool,
and then both friends making me out to be the jerk.
Sorry if you mis-read the post.

Don't worry about those guys...It happens to all of us sooner or later. There are just waaay more unscrupulous pool players than you can imagine, and you can add your former "friends" to this list. You're better off without them, honestly! Just keep your head, play YOUR GAME, and don't sweat the small stuff. Good rolls, Jeff

Thanks, Jeff & Selftaut. That's my feelings too. Some in the poolroom
seem to think I over-reacted but I take my pool game seriously
and feel like I made a proper response.
Plus, I have high blood pressure and tend to take things to
heart and both of them knew this.

i dont let that stuff bother me, its easier to like someone than not like them and since i'm lazy i just like everyone, its impossible to bother me playing pool, it took years but with alot of effort I have over came distractions, my point is, let it go and just play pool. life is easy dont let other ruin it for you.

Totally agree.

First - get some Lisinopril (for the high-blood pressure) has done wonders for me :)
Second - Those two guys are not and were not your friends.

I think that if you lost friends because they successfully baited you by supporting Bush, then you have WAYYYYYYY too much hatred in your heart for the man..

I sat next to a coworker who was anti-Bush, pro-anyone Democrat, and thought every white man was a racist. If I never called him a race baiting a**hole, then you were WAY out of line calling a FRIEND that!

Maybe they thought it incredibly funny (as do I) that you get as tied up in knots as you do over one political leader who will be out of office pretty soon anyway.

I thought that, morally, Clinton was a big bucket of scum, but I never went to the extremes that some of you on here do to profess my hatred of him.. :D :D :D

Russ

If that's an objective description of the situation, they weren't true friends and you haven't lost anything of value. There are plenty of people out there who play with integrity and respect for the competition. Find them. They are out there, and they make pool a much more meaningful and enjoyable experience.

Why drag the politics into this discussion? What if you were playing
well & a so-called friend started talking about how drunk driving
laws were too harsh and kept trying to bait you to argue with him?
Really, Russ, can't I have an honest discussion here about
a situation that has me really upset without having to hear
all that tired " libs are full of hatred for Bush" rhetoric?
As I told KY Boy,this is about my "friends" baiting and whether
or not I was wrong in reacting as I did.

Some people don't read every post before they open their spout and some people read every post and open it anyways. I think you know which posts to look at on here. JMO

Hondo,
I can't imagine losing a friend over politics or religion myself. Ultimately it's your own call. If the baiting was done in a good natured way no problem, friends may push our buttons sometimes.

It is ridiculous that GWB is blamed for everything except for teenage pregnancy in New Orleans....

I once had two friends that were in a money match agianst each other, then one started sharking the other. I told him what I thought of his antics, and now I only have one of them as a friend. First rule of friendship is respect...

1. Have not lost any friends over politics. Where did I say that?
2. IMO, sharking was not friendly. Why bring up a subject
that they know will distract me and also something that I
feel very strongly about? Would you do that to your "friends"?
3. Yep. Clinton was blamed for that one.

Actually, I was just trying to be light hearted about the post. I knew it wasn't about politics. Maybe I should have used some smiley faces and a wink. Like the others have stated they are probably not your friends anyway.

However, if this was just a friendly game among friends then your blood pressure may have been too high at the time.;) But if they know you take your game seriously then they are jerks and shouldn't have provoked you.
And they probably don't take their game seriously anyway.

I stand corrected sir. Real friends don't shark friends. Kidding around with buddies is no big deal but it sounds like they used your politics button to shark you.
