This one's not mine, I'm just posting for a friend.

Cocobolo and flame veneers. Notice that the grain in the forearm goes through the points. WOW!!!

Is that because the points are CNC'ed?

Sorry, I'm not at liberty to disclose how it was done. Lol. :p

Just curious, would it be a bad thing if they were done with the CNC?

Of course not, unless it is not disclosed as such.

Good point work is not easy to achieve. It's much easier when pushing a button to do the work for you. I used to spend a lot of time at Paul's shop and never once saw him gluing up points. That's the only reason I asked. I assumed that is why he offers John Davis blanks.

No he definitely glues up his own points. I don't think he does it often but he does do it. If you look at Martin's site you'll see a PFD ivory pointed cue listed for sale. That was supposed to be my cue but I didn't communicate something properly to Paul and it wasn't what I expected. He ended up selling that cue to Martin and making me someone else.
I think there are some things that have to happen without company in his shop. Glueing up points may be one of those things he does when there's no one else around to keep the technique private.

I can't tell you specifically how this cue was done (I do know, I just can't say) but I will say the points are not CNC. :p

Just curious Chris, have you told Tony how easy it is to push a button and let the cnc do the work for you?

Interesting. I never said they were CNCed. I asked. Big difference.

As far as Tony goes, I could give a $hit less what he does. I will never buy a Black Boar. That doesn't mean I do not appreciate HIS CNC skill. His designs are extremely elaborate. I can say with all honesty that his cues are tremendous players. The engineering that goes into his cues is very impressive.

In MY opinion, CNC inlays are fine as long they are not rounded. And that point work is done by wood working skill. Not by the aid of CNC.

By the way, I've never talked to Tony....

No need to.
