I made a cool shot

I made a thread along time ago about making a spot shot without hitting the rail, after the thread started I tried it and on my first attempt I did it with 4 and 3/4 balls didtance from the foot rail, Jay Helfert witnessed it, i was suprised but it was on old 860 on a big pocket table, since then I have been playing around with it and....the first one was pure luck, but good luck.

The other night on 1 hour old 860 on a GC5 with 4.25" pockets(my friends new table...nice) I shot it and on the first try I was 3 and 3/4th balls from the rail, I missed the next few etc. my second best was about 2.5 balls. Seems like I awalys do my best on the first try, LOL. then I fall apart when I think about it.

I was really suprised even on the real good one the ball never skidded I just hit the ball real fat on the new cloth the table was so tight I couldnt hit it real fat, I used a half of tip of inside or a bit less center ball, the spin dies off and the CB is just rolling when it hits the spotted ball, wow it looks so cool when it works, kinda Efren like...I watched him last week,,,,never in my life have I seen anyone like him play-nobody is close he is magic. WOW

Fatboy, it's still a cool shot - but a month or so ago some real good 1P players from this area (sure you know of them) were going shot for shot on it and all of them made it. I felt like a donkey.

Good job. It's a great shot. Sounds like you're getting your game back ;)

thanks, I am playing a little better sometimes, but its up and down, real choppy. Some nights I play way over my head other times like when I play Cory Harper I cant make 4 balls in a row, but i'm having fun with it, however my back problems get in the way of playing often, I'm going to Germany Feb 10 for more diagnosis after 3 operations etc its still bad, we think its a muscle disease in the same spot as the orthopedic problem that has been solved.

Back to pool yeah it feels good to get a little of what I had back, this shot has just been a fun thing for me and I'm proud of a couple of the shots, I have shot it probably 20 times is all, but I only try it when I feel good and I awalys do my best on it(leaving the CB far from the rail) for that day awalys on the first attempt assuming I make it(I never get it farther from the rail on the 4th or 5th attempt), I make spot shots at a high % considering how I play.

I'm done with all this Derby talk, lets all be friends and enjoy pool and let it go at that? cool? I dont have any dislike with anyone here-no mater what they say/said. thanks to everyone for all that was said good or bad words, i'm here to be me and not hurt anyone or upset anyone even Tooth. Thats the kind of man I am. draw your own conclusion. I just wanted to give pool a shot in the arm and I hope I did.

You did good at the DCC and the shot.

You got my curiousity up about this shot. Seems like it takes a lot of touch. I'll have to try it.

I made it first try as well. Not with much room to spare but that doesn't bother me. I made the proposition shot ... time to move on. :D

Gotta get back to useful practice. Stay cool.

I haven't seen it personally but I've heard Efren shoots this shot with a touch of masse and the cue ball stops dead. That would be cool.

Anyone can try this for even money with 50 tries or 35:1 on the money.

I have seen this attempted as part of the hustle to get someone to bet on the ball not touching the bottom rail.

Another gimmick to this shot is a good gaff. The bet is that the cue ball not be allowed to touch the bottom rail and must come to rest above the spot. This can be done easily by placing the cue ball on the rail even with the head string. Then shoot a good draw shot aimed to hit the object ball full (this is to counter the effect of coming off the rail onto the table bed). The ball will have little friction from the cloth before contacting the object ball and will snatch back to the side rail and up table. It is a fairly easy and interesting gaff.

I would have to call BS on that...I think physics would prevent it.

I think a spot shot would be too tough, but possible.

i didnt mention it but I did swereve around a ball got about 3"' of swerve in a 4 to 5 foot shot, ( I could set it up again I remembered it)foot shot around a ball hitthe OB and CB stopped dead in its tracks, i was going to make a thread but since I only ever done or saw it once in my life i let it go. It stuck dead after going aroind a ball, was behind the side the OB was about on the head string, It was the 2 ball, I ran out like it was normal...lol...i never saw such a shot ever, but it is possible, For every action there is an equal and oppsite reaction and it was spinning just right so when it hit the OB it just died, for me that would have beeen god enough but the 2 went in hard, on everything dear to me I did it accidentally, hell I was just trying to hit the ball. So yeah efren IMO has done this many times.

I never thought about using inside eng. I can do it often using outside. Now I can't wait to get to the pool hall to try inside.

now I gotta try that, I like playing around with this shot, I can make spot shots at a high %, someday this might be my prop shot. ;)

I haven't seen one stop dead, but I did hit one once with about a foot and a half of masse and the cueball only rolled about 6" after contact. It was pure, total, idiotic luck of course, but it was also insanely funny because I had never tried the shot before, and had just been talking about it to the guy I was playing with. He said something about how he didn't think it was possible to slow roll it, and I agreed that I didn't think it was possible to slow roll it either, but I thought it would be possible to masse it in. He said that sounded even less possible than the slow-roll, but I geared up for the big hook shot and just happened to hit it perfect. That's when you're supposed to say "SEE, it's a total hanger, but I'll still give you 3 to 1 on the shot since I'm such a nice guy", lol.

It's possible, but it takes more than "a touch" of masse - watch the video posted in another thread to see how much masse it takes to stop the CB after even 1-2 feet. Bob Jewett told of somebody actually backing the CB uptable a foot or so after contact, but with lots of masse.
