I wish I would've known about this match. I live just up the road from Kennys and I know Jay from way back. He's a good guy, no question. It would've been fun to sweat.
Apparently I have offended some of the local St. Louis players by discussing someone's speed, without adequately knowing them, or consulting them first, so as I am have ruined their action.
So this is my formal apology to Julia (and to whom contacted me via Facebook)... I am sorry if I spoke out of line, and it was my understanding that anyone who knew anything about pool in or around STL knew that Julia was no hack. My comments were out of respect for her skill, not for adverse affects, so again I am sorry.
Jay (thinking maybe I should just stay on my side of the river for a while, apparently I have worn out my welcome in MO)

Jay, it is almost impossible to say anything on the internet without ruffling someone's feathers. On the one hand you will have people here openly asking if they know who a particular player is, about someone's speed, what the line is on a match, who is the favorite, and on and on. You go to a strange pool room nowadays and show any speed and someone is whipping out a camera to take pictures and/or video of you.
But, there will always be someone who is old school and call you a knocker or take umbrage at potential action being ruined if you discuss a player's speed.
eh.
There are no secrets anymore, no one can go undercover, everyone can easily get a line on someone's speed with a few taps of google, a text, a call. So don't feel bad. If anyone thinks you've ruined someone's action they are either pulling your chain or living in the past.
And oh yeah: love ya Julia

Thanks Lou. The reason I was so thrown off, was it was about Julia... I can't honestly see her caring either way what was said. But according to who contacted me on FB, she was upset about it... So for that I am sorry, not about what I said, but that it offended Julia. I admire her game, and her table manner very highly

Might be time to reinstitute the 'Masked Marvel' concept to stay under the radar.
Then again, the calls to local PD about a masked man in the pool room might undermine that tactic.
Sneaking up is real hard to do.![]()
Maybe, but Julia is a tough cookie and experienced player. I don't see it. And, everyone in MO and probably lower IL knows her. She was also a regular at national events so it's not exactly like we're talking about someone who has been playing undercover in a basement somewhere.

not too hard
on the eyes either :-o
Jay, Just blame it on me, I was the one that brought Julia's name into it. So Julia if your reading this blame me (Jim Baker) I already knew your speed, I was just seeing if Rhea would bite on the line.
I guess I get to take the blame on messing Brendans name up and exposing Julia's speed to the internet. Guilty as charged I will punish myself by read this thread to the end and thank you grammer police for not punishing me severly, I am guilty as charged there too!![]()
On a side note, you are based in Dixon MO? My family has property near there and I go up once or twice a year. Only place I've seen with tables is Shaky J's; I understand they do a weekly tournament up there but the tables don't seem to be in all that great of shape.
Don't get up there very often but was just curious as you don't run into too many people out of Dixon.[/QUOT
There is a place in town called Brant's sewing shop, they have a 10' snooker table a 9' snooker table and a bar box in their place. I haven't been in Shakey J's in a long time, I play at my house or at OB's billiards mostly.
Let me know the next time you're in town.
