Any suggestions on a good medium hard non layered tip. I want the tip to be hard but not make a loud ting when shooting. Suggestions please.

Tyr the Moori soft. I did and am very happy. You will need to get the mushroom taken out after you play w/ it for a bit, be sure you ask the installer to hook you up with that. Expect to buy him a beer or soda or coffee, or pay up to $5 to have it done. By pleasantly surprised when he does it for free.

A good LePro or a good Triangle will do the trick. You can put a pad under the tip to soften the sound.

There is no such thing really. Probably the closest I have ever seen would be old Tad Tips.

cbi1000,

I would go with the Triangle tips, i used one for about 2months and really liked it.

Now on one of my shafts i have a Stingray tip, which is layer'd and it plays very nice. And cost me 8$ and had a friend put it on. So not sure if you just dont like layer'd tips or what. But i like the tip alot. And its alot cheaper than a Moori Med, which is what i have on my other shaft.

you can also go with Le-pro, which is about the same as Triangle, but less consistent, cuz i have used them in the past and some come rock hard, and some come almost like a med tip.

I like the Triangles too. You can adjust how "hard" it hits by how low you cut the tip down. I like to cut the tip down so the sidewall is about the thickness of a nickel and shape the tip to a "quarter" radius.

Generally, the lower the tip, the harder/noisier the tip can be.

Like Black-balled I like the Moori. However, I'm partial to the medium. And he is 100% correct about the mushroom. It (mushrooming) will happen in the first week you shoot with it then it should be good after having the mushroom removed.

Why don't you do it old school...get a Elk master soft tip installed...tap it on the floor. get it reshaped, and repeat until you get it to the hardness you like.

Another vote for Triangle. I actually switched to them a couple of months ago and really like how it plays.

i guess ill be the first to not be happy with the triangle, i shoot with a lepro medium, got it switched to the triangle medium and the triangles are a bit harder, threw my game off a ton, hard to get on a good run. went back to le pro, shooting good again. personally i didnt have a good encounter with triangle, everybodys different. (by the way triangles and mauris tend to be harder than others, ex triangle medium is a bit harder than lepro medium)

It doesn't sound like your problem was the quality of the Triangle, just that their tip is harder than Le Pro's. For someone who wants a harder tip than a Le Pro, like the original poster on this thread, I don't think your experience argues against Triangles. (Also, I think there's only one hardness of Triangle--no soft, medium, and hard. Just Triangles.)

Muellers created a hardness scale and gives the hardness rating for all the tips they sell (other sites do this too), so it might be a good idea to check there before you switch brands. Le Pros are a 78.2; Triangles 81.4.

A firend of mine, who is a cue maker, installs all my tips now. He puts presses triangle tips in a vise for 10-15 minutes before the install. I used nothing but triangles before, now I use thomas mh. Only bad part about them is I know only one person who has them, he gets them from taiwan.
